EMOTIONS SWELL IN GREECE BOYS FUNERAL TODAY - pray for greece people!
ATHENS, Greece (CNN) -- Greece was bracing itself for more violence Tuesday ahead of the funeral of a 15-year-old whose fatal shooting by police sparked days of rioting across major cities.
An undated photo of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, whose death has sparked riots across Greece.
Authorities have vowed to re-impose order after the worst civil disorder to hit the country for decades left dozens injured and caused massive damage to property.
Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, whose unpopular economic reforms are seen as an underlying factor in the unrest, vowed again Tuesday that those responsible for the violence would be punished.
"I assured the president that no leniency will be tolerated in holding people accountable," he told reporters Tuesday.
"No one has the right to use this tragic incident as an alibi for actions of raw violence."
Riots broke out Saturday in Thessaloniki and Athens after the shooting of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos by police. The violence quickly spread to other parts of the country.
Athens was calm Tuesday as cleaning crews worked to remove the debris from the latest riots, which saw police fight running battles with self-styled anarchists hurling gasoline bombs in barricaded streets. Watch protesters clash with police »
As trouble spread, demonstrators also torched government buildings and the offices of Karamanlis' ruling conservative party. At least 35 cars were set ablaze, officials said. Watch as iReporter witnesses the clashes
Athens police said 12 policemen were injured in Monday's violence and 87 people were arrested. There were 10 flashpoints across Athens where officers confronted rioters, police said. See images of anarchy on Greek streets »
More public protests are scheduled Tuesday to coincide with the funeral of Grigoropoulos, due to be held in a coastal district of Athens.
Public and private schools and universities across the country were shut again Tuesday. Two student demonstrations were scheduled for midday near the National Library as a symbolic show of support for youth.
With students -- who have a long tradition of violent protest in Greece dating back to military junta rule in 1970s -- seen as key to instigating the unrest, the dean of Athens University resigned Tuesday. iReport.com: Are you there? Share photos, video of rioting
Meanwhile, Karamanlis met with President Karolos Papoulias before holding a cabinet meeting. Afterwards, Karamanlis planned to meet with political leaders to seek solutions to the unrest.
Government officials have condemned the shooting of Grigoropoulos.
