[Patrixia Santos is a 'Redvocate' for DOH anti-HIV-AIDS campaign]

University of the Philippines law student Patrixia Santos join the 2019 Binibining Pilipinas pageant fray hoping to be the next Bicolana beauty to become Miss Universe.

Santos, (26) is currently a Department of Health advocates for HIV-AIDS awareness or "Redvocate".

She served as chief political affairs officer and was also chief legislative office of the AKO Bicol Party-list.

Santos recently helped launch a new anti-HIV-AIDS awareness campaign video as a volunteer of the Duyan program of advocacy group, Project Red Ribbon.

"Focusing on children living with HIV-AIDS, the Duyan video delivers a powerful emotional call to action to make everyday Filipinos open their hearts and create a continuing tsunami of mainstream public support," according to Santos.

She said over 2,000 Filipino children have been diagnosed with HIV-AIDS and the DOH anticipates further increase in mother to child transmission cases.

Erasing the stigma and hatred of people living with HIV-AIDS will convince children, mothers, women, and other at-risk groups to be tested to make sure they do not have the virus or if they do have the virus, can be swiftly treated at no expense on their part, proponents of a new awareness campaign said.

In her remarks at the media launch for social media influencers and bloggers, Santos said, "at the end of the day, it's not the virus or the disease that kills people, it's the hatred, it's the discrimination against them because that's the very reason they do not test and that's the very reason why it is (the virus) is being transmitted."

Santos last competed in the Binibining Pilipinas in 2010 soon after winning the Miss Bicolandia and Mutya ng Magayon crowns in 2009. Before that she took the Mutya ng Ibalong title in Legazpi City in 2008.

She last competed in the Miss Kaogma pageant in 2014 of Camarines Sur province.

Santos is an alumnus of Bicol University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English degree in April 2012 with special awards for academic distinction, service excellence, leadership, including the Loren Legarda Leadership Award.

At UP Diliman, Santos is an Owen White Scholarship Awardee and UP Class 1971 Foundation Scholarship Awardee.

She is an alumnae of St. Agnes Academy in Legazpi City, Albay.

The Binibining Pilipinas pageant organizers are accepting candidates until March 15. (END)

The Northern Samar beauty in the reigning Miss Pintados showed up at the BPCI Office yesterday to file her Bb. Pilipinas 2019 application.

And Julie Ann Tarrayo is ready to compete with the other ladies who will take part in the final screening early next week.
