Miss Northern Ireland 2021 Finalist is Diana Award recipient
Bernadette Hagans, from Belfast has been recognised with the highest accolade a young person can achieve for social action or humanitarian efforts - the Diana Awards.
The only charity set up in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Award is given out by the charity of the same name and has the support of both her sons, The Duke of Cambridge and The Duke of Sussex.
In 2018 Bernadette lost her leg to a rare cancer, synovial sarcoma which develops in cells around joints and tendons. To save her life surgeons amputated her right leg and Bernadette had to learn to walk again using a prosthetic.
Bernadette uses the power of social media to raise awareness of cancer and disability, whilst empowering others by celebrating difference. She has spoken at events and organised workshops to create peer-support connections for children with cancer. She is also writing a book to support children with their adjustment to life with a prosthetic after amputation.

The 27-year-old primary school teacher from Cookstown bested 22 other aspirants for the title. She will now head on to compete at the 70th Miss World contest in December in Puerto Rico.
