The year 2006 was quite an exciting year for Bahamian pageantry because we got to witness the launch of the Miss Bahamas Organization. Complete with website, the new organization released the photos of 15 stunning women to the Bahamian public and called them "the Fabulous Fifteen"....and they truly were. The Bahamian public was also involved in the choosing of miss photogenic by internet and sms voting. The pageant was held in July (not sure of the actual date) at the Rainforest Theatre, Cable Beach in Nassau and was a spectacular event. At the end of the night 24 year old Deandra Conliffe walked away with the title, the grand prizes and the coveted George Wittels Crown (wow what a beauty).....
Stunning Deandra, standing at 1.78 m tall or roughly 5ft 10" tall, was a hit with the international pageant watchers and fans at large. Many of whom embraced the new Bahamian queen and included her as one of their favourites to place in the Miss World pageant. Deandra really created a buzz and was adored by fans and the board members of the Miss World Organization who immediately congratulated the new MBO on a wonderful contestant. Deandra did not place but, she started a wonderful trend that many Bahamians hoped others crowned after her would continue.
