MY ANALYSIS ON THE RECENTLY CONCLUDED PAGCOR EVENING GOWN COMPETITION

This year's Miss Earth edition has so many beautiful girls. All of them are truly special and have something great to offer to us. Below are my personal picks for their hits and misses on this particular event, the evening gown competition:

1. Greece. This girl really knew how to strut her stuff on the runway no matter what piece of clothing you put on her body. Personally, her gown reminded me of the blues heydeys of Austin Powers circa '60s but because Ria knew how to work it out on stage, it came out dramatic, beautiful and magnificent!

2. Spain. Adriana was so beautiful and vibrant last night that the pale pink hue she sported on her evening gown complimented her quiet resilience and Spanish appeal on stage. Watch out for this girl because she's definitely one of the top contenders.

3. Peru. This girl knew how to work her moves on stage to her advantage. I loved her pauses and poses because each vignette she did was totally different. Plus, the purple number really worked to her sophiscated aura. Oh, I loved this girl!

4. Kosovo. Her gown breathed on stage! She knew how to carry it with great aplomb. If I were to compare this girl from the other Kosovo girl at Miss Universe in terms of stage presence, then I would choose this one over the latter. Trust me, she'll be in!

5. Latvia. The black-and-white number worked on her! She carried it with elegance and fluidity. Great job!

6. Sweden. The girl looked sexy on her pale green number. She looked beautiful and radiant last night!

7. Honduras. It was a black number that reminded me of "Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark". It could have been a very hideous and difficult number but then, this girl knew how to wear it effortlessly. I had to give her my two thumbs up for making it work! This girl will also be a force to reckon with should she get into the semifinals on November 9th!

8. Costa Rica. Again, the gown was just so-so but the girl carried the gown so well that I would have wanted her to keep strutting her stuff on stage! This girl was just a pleasant surprise!

9. Rwanda. Another pleasant surprise! The simplicity and "minimalist concept" of her gown intrigued me. The construction and design of her gown had an African undertone but it didn't result to that of a tribal costume or some Kumbaya outfit. She carried it well and was just an eyecandy on stage last night.

10. Uganda. Her blue number looked pretty on her. The construction and design made her looked elegant. She really did well on this event.

11. Russia. The white-and-silvery number with a Jane Austen-era hairstyle was such a treat. I loved the way she walked on stage with her body movements and the flow of her dress in synchronized rhythm and harmony. She reminded me of Gwyneth Paltrow in the movie, "Emma". The fluidity and control of her elements were all there. I also loved the way she composed herself and took a bow before the audience as she was about to exit the stage. Brilliant!

12. England. Her white number looked so dainty on her. She looked so sweet and charming on her dress. She also carried it well without looking like a bride or a debutante. Good contender!

13. Colombia. Her yellow willowy gown was absolutely gorgeous! Her presentation was almost the same as Taliana's at Miss Universe except for the long train of the latter. Expect this girl to be in the running for the Miss Earth crown!

14. Ecuador. This girl also gave her best presentation last night. The moves were perfect, the poses were right and the stage presence was more than enough to arouse interest. This girl really did her homework!

15. Venezuela. She really deserved the Best in Evening Gown award because she gave justice to that beautiful gown that looked like a moving American Beauty from the "Twelve Months of Roses" of the Franklin Mint collection! Her stage presence last night reminded me of another Venezuelan beauty queen, Barbara Palacios-Teyde, Miss Universe 1986. This girl, Daniela, knew when to rise to the occasion and I felt that this was one of the many reasons why Sambil gave her the title of Miss Earth-Venezuela against the heavy favorite Andrea Mathies. Watch out for Daniela on the finals!

My biggest disappointments:

1. Romania. The gown was hideous! Who designed Ruxandra's ridiculous gown? The colors were just terribly awful that I felt like I painfully watched a Cirque de Soleil performer spilling bottles of Pepto-Bismol and soda caps to her colorful outfit as a joke! My God! It was certainly a big letdown from Romania!

2. Philippines. The gown looked heavy on her and the "drama" she did on stage was just an overkill for me! You knew what I was talking about, right? It was the drama of removing her sleeves in front of the audience! For me, it was just way too much to absorb that it bordered on the hoi polloi spectrum. Again, Karla and her handlers had the need to be reminded of that great adage, "Less is more"! I would rather prefer the canary gown that she wore at Miss Philippines over this barriotic overkill number at any given time!

3. Thailand. Uhmn . . . I don't know. I'm quite ambivalent of the success of her gown on stage. There were moments where she looked really nice and striking and there were also some moments where the gown made her looked like Big Bird from Sesame Street.

4. Tanzania. WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS THAT, FOLKS? She really ruined her chances last night by doing those ridiculous moves on stage . . . talking about another overkill! From the get-go, I really rooted for this African princess to "deliver the Miss Earth goods" but after I watched her overacted and weird presentation last night, I felt that she might not make it on the finals unless she'd blow away the judges come preliminary panel interview time. I hope I'm wrong on this but this was just only my personal assessment on her. Honestly, I really didn't know what possessed her but I guessed there was a system to her temporary madness that she demonstrated on the stage last night! It made me angry because she was one of my bets in the first place. She already looked promising in the swimsuit competition and her personality was such a delight to all of us. Although her interview skills needed some tweaking but I still felt that this girl would be one of the strong contenders for this year's Miss Earth crown. Alas, she blew her chances last night by performing some over-the-top and ludicrous poses that seemed to be a continuation of her national costume presentation while in an evening gown! Ugh! Utterly ridiculous! If she were my daughter, I would have given her a hard spanking on the butt with my slipper after that horrendous presentation!

5. Martinique. She started out fine but I guessed she got carried away by the applause from the audience that she soon began to lift the partitions of her gown and exposed her legs while strutting her stuff on stage. I thought she would disrobe herself on her final pose! Thank God she didn't!

6. USA. It was bland! The blue color didn't suit Jana on stage. The construction of the gown reminded me of some characters in Disney movies. I would probably translate it as "the-Jasmine-from-'Alladin'-meets-Cinderella's-tattered-gown-after-being-brutally-attacked-by-her-stepsisters" gown. It didn't have the "wow factor" to sustain me. I felt bad because Jana was also one of my favorites to win the crown and it seemed that her gown and execution last night didn't take her to greater heights!

7. Mexico. The execution suffered last night when she got so distracted by the length of her gown's hem and its frills that the fear of tripping or losing the balance became more overwhelming than just letting it go for the sake of presentation. I felt that she wanted to pattern the same execution as Elisa Najera's at Miss Universe Evening Gown Competition but came out lacking when the "lift the skirt, do a snap turn, release the skirt and voila" took place. It looked so odd that the frills got a little bit tangled within that she had to kick her leg a little bit high to avoid the heel from catching the tangle and eventually tripping while trying to get out from that pose.

9. Australia. She looked like a lost bride last night. The gown was so bulky that it tremendously overwhelmed her. It was so painful to see that she had to literally pick up the heavy skirt of her dress before starting to walk in order to avoid herself from tripping or falling.

10. India. It was such a lackluster performance from Miss Vyas last night. The spark wasn't there and she tripped while going toward the next post. The royal blue number didn't give her any oomph at all, either. She was truly out of her element last night. I hope she makes it up in the interview competition sometime this week.

Thank you!

What do you think folks? I'm happy to see Fanny in the hits list. She seems to have impressed some people! Very Happy
