Wednesday 3rd August 2016 marked the launch of the Miss T&T 2016, Beauty With a Purpose project. This year the focus is on the growing epidemic that is Cervical Cancer.

The following is the plan of Daniella Walcott and the Miss T&T team

I plan as Miss Trinidad and Tobago on being a guiding light and support to the women and families who experience the effects of Cervical Cancer. Our program “Let’s do it for Our girls” would be registered as a Non Governmental Organisation that would provide volunteers from different bodies such as the Religious Community, Educational Community (teachers and students) and Public servants, just to name a few. These volunteers would assist in the palliative care aspect of our program. This includes reaching out and assisting the victims and families of cervical cancer. This foundation will be part of the Miss World Trinidad and Tobago Organisation and we wish to work closely with the Palliative Care Society where we encourage doctors, religious leaders and groups, citizens of Trinidad and Tobago to reach out to us and inform us of families that are caring for family members at the palliative stage. We will encourage our volunteers to come and assist with care and counselling for the patient and the family.

We also hope to go a step further in partnering with experienced persons to train volunteers in palliative care and counselling.

The next few months promises to be exciting as we educate the public about this illness and how it can be prevented.

@Press Conference to launch BWP 2016 - 3rd August 2016.

Good afternoon, the Medical team of Miss World Trinidad and Tobago Beauty With a Purpose - Dr. Dylan Narinesingh, Medical Director - St. James Medical Complex, Dr. Vanessa Harry, Oncologist, Dr. Stacy Chamely, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Medical Association, who I understand was unable to attend due to a prior commitment, but representing the Association is Dr Liane Conyette the Public Relations Officer, members of the MWTT Committee, Sponsors, members of the media, friends and well wishers.

It brings me great pleasure to welcome you all to this, our Press Conference in support of our launch for this year’s Beauty With a Purpose project entitled : LET’S DO IT FOR OUR GIRLS – CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS.

Ladies and gents, the MWTT organization key focus is in modifiying the image of pageantry in our country, where our beauties are not only revered as a “beauty queen” and as a “tourism ambassdor” but a young woman who has a heart to follow through with passion and dignity to assist those in need, to be an advocate for the less fortunate and one who will empower and inspire other girls and young women to be the best they can be..not only for themselves but for our proud country of Trinidad and Tobago….to be a postive role model and to be able to represent our red, white and black in all aspects on the greatest stage of the world..the MISS WORLD Beauty Pageant.

The Miss World Pageant is the Oldest, Largest, Most Prestigious pageant also the World's MOST watch annual event on television where its’ key emphasis is on the promotion of charity, hence “Beauty With a Purpose. The Organization raises the most amount of money than any organization for Charity globally...

An integral factor of the judging process which automatically propel a delegate to be in the Semi Final round of the Miss World Beauty Pageant is her Beauty With a Purpose project.

Every year each delegate has to work cohesively and diligently with the Franchise Director and Organization on a charitable project that will not only transform the lives of those in need in her country but one that truly embodies being empowered to champion for a cause close to heart and to lead by example giving all that is within her to WIN!

The 66th edition of the Miss World Beauty Pageant will be hosted in Washington DC, in December, and our queen has to be ready to depart our shores later on this year in November.

This year with our BWAP team inclusive of our queen Daniella, much heart and thought was given. It was a lengthy process but in the end it was uninamous that our cause had to be health related. Mr. Shane Mohammed, our Communications Specialist and Head Interview Coach, was our Project Lead and after much discussion and statistics given by our Medical Team, it was decided that we HAD to focus on Cervical Cancer Awareness. According to the data given it was very alarming and the team knew that WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING..we have to SAVE the lives of our girls…our young women…we have to save FAMILIES.

Our BWP team has been working diligently for the past 2 months and our queen has been conducting her training sessions with Dr. Chamely and Dr. Harry on a regular basis, to better understand all that is associated with cervical cancer, so she can be a strong advocate.

During the next few months our queen and organization would be working on a number of awareness projects to sensitize our population on this dreaded ill. Further information will be given when our queen addressess you all.

"Last Thursday I visited a group of very strong women who believe it or not are cervical cancer survivors and others who have cervical cancer and are going through the healing process.

It was a very touching experience chatting with each of them. It was very sad to hear their stories and the difficulties that they face/ed during the process of healing I can not even fathom it.

One major message that they wanted me to share with the public was that we the people must learn to be strong yet compassionate for them. We also need better health care for our Women it should be our prime focus and priority in Trinidad and Tobago.

I hope to be making a second visit to the group so that I can reach the heart of their issues and some how give them hope that I can be their voice to share their issues so that change can happen. There is much that needs to be done, we need to take action now.

A special thanks you to Pat Tikasingh the leader of the group and an Angel from heaven. I would like to thank her for counceling and providing support for these women who greatly need it.
There is hope when we have people like this in our world.
