Monyque Brooks was crowned Miss Cayman Islands 2016 by the outgoing titleholder, Tonie Chisholm Delgadillo during the gala, held on January 30th, 2016 at the Lions Centre, George Town, Grand Cayman. The 24-year-old beauty hailing from West Bay will now represent her country at the next edition of Miss Universe pageant and/or at Miss World 2016.
Monyque’s life has been deeply influenced by her love for Caymanian arts, culture and heritage. She is set on leaving her footprint in the local arts industry through participation in major programmes and festivals.
Monyque has a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management, and is currently involved in working with the Department of Tourism. She is involved in the National Cultural Foundation’s events, and is a part of the Cayman Islands Dance Company, to name a few.
Becoming the next Miss Cayman Island was not just a lifelong dream for Monyque. The 24 years old beauty wants to inspire and affect change among the masses. Monyque vows to stay dedicated to her cause, continuously demonstrating her zeal and commitment to ‘Caymankind’. Monyque believes and abides by the following quotes in her life…

The Miss Cayman Islands Committee has confirmed that new Miss Cayman Islands Monyque Brooks scored the highest in three out of four segments on which the girls were judged. The girls were judged on their performance in a morning interview on the day of the pageant (25%), swimsuit (25%), evening gown (25%) and the question and answer (25%) segments of the show.The 24-year-old from West Bay received the highest score in the morning interview and maintained her winning streak for the evening gown and the Q&A segments.

In an exclusive interview with The Cayman Reporter the beauty queen disclosed that when she heard her name announced as Miss Cayman Islands 2016 she was shocked and she still cannot believe that she is the new reigning queen.
Describing how she felt before her crowning moment Miss Brooks said, “I was extremely nervous. I knew that I was up against seven other strong contestants and that anything was possible.”
She was also awarded Best Smile, Most Photogenic and Best Gown, which also came as a surprise to her as she did not expect to walk away with majority of the sectional prizes.
“Although I consider myself to be rather confident, my fellow pageant sisters also stood an excellent chance at receiving these awards as well so I just wasn’t sure,” she stated.

Miss Cayman said, since the pageant, she has been receiving “overwhelmingly positive” public feedback, including on social media.
“It still feels slightly unreal to get over 500 likes on some of my photos. It’s taking a little while to sink in but I’m accepting it humbly,” she noted.
Though her performance on the night of the pageant won over the judges, Miss Cayman said her journey to the crown was very intense and she prepared for the competition as though she were preparing for a much larger goal – Miss Universe.

Lauren Bush-Knight prepared her for the interview and Q&A, while her runway coach Dianne Brown choreographed her onstage routines.
As a result, she felt prepared for every segment of the pageant. “Although I felt a bit of anxiety, I was confident in knowing that I did all I could to ensure I was fully prepared,” she told The Cayman Reporter.
Ms Brooks scored the highest in the Q&A segment with the judges and based on the response it received on the night of pageant, her answer seemed to have been the crowd’s favourite as well.

The question given to each of the contestant was, “A woman awakens after 20 years, what do you tell her she has missed?”
Her response was, “I would tell her that she has missed out on advancements in technology and medicine such as the invention of smartphones and MRIs. I would also tell her that she has missed out on historical moments locally such as when Ms Sybil McLaughlin was recognised as the first female national hero of the Cayman Islands. However, I will also inform her that she has been lucky to miss out on horrible acts of terrorism such as 9/11. But, after I’ve told her what she’s missed I would encourage her to help shape the next 20 years.”
