Filipa Barroso

Filipa Barroso is a very dedicated person, a fighter, and someone who believes everything is possible. She devoted herself to her studies, with the end goal of becoming a Veterinarian. Filipa loves sports and travel. Kindness is one of her strongest features. The desire to be the first Portuguese to win the Miss Universe is too much and she always says: 'we are the size of our dreams'. If she takes home the crown, Filipa would focus on working with people who have disabilities, children, and animals.

Yulia Polyachikhina

Yulia Polyachikhina is currently studying journalism at Chuvash State University. Before winning the title, Yulia took competed in fitness aerobics dancing competitions and worked as an international model. She loves spending time with her family and two dogs. She also enjoys volunteering to make children happier. Yulia hopes to make her country proud at this year's Miss Universe competition.

Angella Dalsou

Angella Dalsou is an outgoing 24 year old who is passionate about the needs of children on her island. She keeps busy pursuing her degree in Psychology and Human Resource Management at the University of the West Indies. Now, she works as a secretary at the Micoud Secondary School as well as she manages her Blue Project, an organization that provides interventions for young adults. Her dream is to become a Child Psychologist, with hopes of mentoring as many children as she possibly can. Angella is actively involved in the students welfare program which aids underprivileged students in her community. She loves the great outdoors, hiking, climbing trees, and swimming. Angella is proud to have hiked the Gros Piton, which is the second tallest mountain on the Island of Saint Lucia. She hopes to make her country proud at this year's Miss Universe competition.

SOUTH AFRICA

Tamaryn Green

Twenty-four-year-old Tamaryn Green, from Paarl in the Western Cape, was crowned Miss Universe South Africa 2018 on Sunday, May 27. At the time of winning the title, she was a sixth and final year medical student at the University of Cape Town with her sights set on specializing in pediatrics once she qualifies. She has always been passionate about making a positive and progressive difference in the lives of others. She grew up being exposed to two very different worlds: the fortunate and less fortunate. Tamaryn wants to assist in bringing those two worlds together. Actions speak louder than words; she wants to be a voice to those who cannot be heard, a servant and role model to South Africans and to the people of the world at large. In August 2018, Tamaryn launched her #breakthestigma campaign where she announced she will be focusing on tuberculosis as her official year of reign campaign. Tamaryn herself also spoke publicly for the first time about her own battle with TB in 2015. The campaign focuses on eradicating TB by 2030. Tamaryn is athletic and loves hiking and swimming as she believes exercise helps with both physical and mental health. Her favourite quote is from Mahatma Gandhi: 'Be the change you want to see in the world.'

Angela Ponce has dedicate her efforts towards the empowerment of young women and families to be proud of who they are. She campaigns to promote gender diversity and equality. Angela is also the first transgender woman ever to be crowned Miss Universe Spain. If she takes home the crown, she wants to want to spread tolerance and respect towards oneself and others globally. Angela is looking forward to making her country proud at this year's Miss Universe competition.

Ornella Gunesekere

Ornella Gunesekere believes that we need to work on ourselves because our strengths are our greatest assets. She describes herself as a persevering woman who is always open to new experiences. She has a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management and finds joy in the service industry. Over the past ten years, she has ensured that social volunteerism has been a regular part of her life and encourages those who have the power to help to make it their responsibility to help - even in the smallest ways. Ornella believes that in order to get to the rainbow, you've got to be willing to put up with the rain and though she does not claim to be a magician, she does have a few tricks up her sleeve. She believes that being relatable is the greatest quality that enables others to open up and look to her for strength. She has used her adversity positively to encourage others as she was someone who faced paralysis and overcame it. She understands the beauty of being able to live out a dream and her greatest joy comes from seeing others live out their full potential.

Sophida Kanchanarin

Sophida Kanchanarin decided to pursue pageantry after graduating with a BSBA degree in Finance with 2nd class honors, and after working as an IB manager for almost a year. Even though Sophida's office desk is full of mathematics, statistics, and science papers, she still loves giving herself a makeover in her leisure time. As someone who has learned how to free herself from mental block, Sophida has set up a project called 'UNLOCK' to encourage the younger generation, especially girls in House of Correction, to recover and discover their identity, abilities and potentials. Sophida hopes to make her country proud at this year's Miss Universe competition.

Tara De Vries

Tara de Vries is studying business administration at Koc University in Istanbul. She was born in Amsterdam and raised in Holland until she was 12 years of age. She is a blend of two cultures as she has a Turkish mom (Miss Universe Turkey 1992) and a Dutch father. Her biggest motivation in life is her families unique story as her own struggle at a young age. Her 4 year younger brother was born with a rare anomaly and has gone under 40+ surgeries. After a year of intensive care, 7 years of sign language, and all the nursing around her little brother, it had caused Tara the psychological disease called "Selective Mutism". Tara has lived with her family in Holland, Turkey, France and New York due to the operations of her brother and the availability to his care. Tara has become passionate and active in organizations that allow her to raise awareness and help children who have disabilities. She strives to be a young role model for the women in Turkey. Her strong advocacy focuses on children and women to empower their own qualities and strength in their lives. If she takes home the Miss Universe crown, she will be able to create a wide-spread awareness and global support for families globally with shared life experiences.

Aniska Tonge is a recent graduate of Georgia State University with a Master's of the Arts in Mass Communication, she also works as a Content Transmission Tech. From snorkeling to scuba diving, camping and rock climbing, Aniska is drawn to the outdoors and loves documenting it through her first love of writing. She is actively engaged in her community through her non-profit 4HER and plans to continue advocating for suicide prevention and mental health awareness should she take home the crown.

From the age of sixteen years old, Karina Zhosan successfully built her acting and modeling career in Asia. In the same time period, she received a higher education in the sphere of hotel-restaurant and tourist business in her country. She studied foreign languages. The last half of her year, Karina devoted most of her time to travel and has visited nearly 15 new countries. During her travels, she launched a charity foundation for orphans kids in Kenya. After receiving the title Miss Universe Ukraine 2018, Karina plans to develop herself in the media industry in her country to help promote charity on the territory of Ukraine.

Sofia Abigail Marrero Moreira

Sof'a Marrero has always been interest in fashion; hence, she has participated in many fashion modelling events. Sof'a has never given up her dreams, her perseverance and dedication helped her to be awarded as 'Miss Universe Uruguay 2018'. Sof'a considers that winning or placing in this year's Miss Universe competition would be an amazing experience. Her country has never been awarded this prize, nor has it classified to the Top 15 positions for more than 20 years. Sof'a Marrero really loves her country and will be delighted to give Uruguay this prize.

Sarah Rose Summers graduated Cum Laude from Texas Christian University in four years with two separate degrees while working two part-time jobs. After graduating, she completed her clinical rotations and exam to become a Certified Child Life Specialist. When not in scrubs, she could often be found in workout gear teaching pilates or taking a dance party cycling class. An adventure seeker at heart, Sarah Rose keeps herself busy traveling the world, hiking mountains with her dad, and now navigating the NYC Subway. As the first Miss USA from her home state of Nebraska, she speaks frequently about chasing even seemingly unattainable goals. She is also passionate about utilizing her child life skills alongside Smile Train surgeons, Project Sunshine, and The Seacrest Foundation.

Sthefany Gutiérrez describes herself as an optimistic, intelligent, capable, and hardworking, thanks to her mother's influence. She grew up surrounded by love from a big family constituted by women, except for her dad and her younger brother. She came from a family of working women who do not set themselves the boundaries to succeed. Sthefany has one year left to graduate as a lawyer in her home country, Venezuela. In the future, she would also like to be a television host and reveals that she loves theater as well.

H'Hen Nie

Growing up, H'Hen Ni chose to focus on education, which helped positively change a difficult childhood. She has tried her hands in several jobs such as a maid, tutor, leaflet deliverer, and model to help pay for her studies and life in the city. The Miss Universe Vietnam crown is not only the result of her hard effort, but also changed the definition of a beauty queen in Vietnam. If she becomes Miss Universe 2018, H'Hen Nie will use the influence of the title to continue helping disadvantaged children around the world to attend schools, especially in conjunction with organizations to enhance girls' lives in developing countries.

Melba Shakabozha

Melba Shakabozha is a Radiologist who currently acts as an ambassador for an orphanage school program where she mentors two orphaned girls. Melba hopes her advocacy and title will help provide a higher education to the children in the orphanage. After winning her countries title, Melba took responsibility to look after 82 children with disabilities at Home of Hope. Melba hopes to make her country proud while competing on a global stage at this year's Miss Universe competition.

Grainne Gallanagh

Grainne Gallanagh is a 24 year old nurse from Buncrana, Donegal. After graduating from University with honours and a Bachelor of Science degree, she became a nurse specializing in women's health. Grainne enjoys volunteering, reading, working out, and swimming in open water. She feels there is nothing more refreshing than jumping into the brisk Irish Sea; it is her earliest and most favourite childhood memory. Grainne is particularly passionate about women's issues and women's health. She says, 'Women face significant barriers to both mental and physical health. Women face poorer health than men due to economic disadvantage, discrimination, pregnancy, their caring roles, as well as higher rates of sexual assault and domestic violence. This must change.' As Miss Universe Ireland 2018 she is determined to utilize her platform and her profession as a nurse to help raise awareness, bring more resources to women, and provide more education on women's health issues. Her ultimate goal is to establish a new community standard for modern medicine by opening her own women's health clinic. Grainne is very family orientated and admires her parents for instilling her core values. She has most importantly learned to love life and to stay open. They taught her to enjoy all that the world has to offer while offering the world her best. Her sisters have influenced her in all aspects of life and have helped shape who she is as a person. Above all, Grainne wants to encourage women to be more confident in themselves. She says she is proud to represent not only her country but also the Donegal community whom have shown a tremendous amount of support and encouragement as she sets her sights to capture the very first Miss Universe crown for the Emerald Isle.

Erica De Matteis is graduating in the Faculty of Sciences of Education and loves working with children. She works as a volunteer for "Kim House", where she helps children who are seriously ill from all over the world, and from war countries. Erica loves music and is a professional singer. In her spare time she runs, draws and reads novels. According to Erica, women are wonderful creatures, with strength and intelligence. For her, beauty is not only aesthetic but above all interior. If she wins the crown, it would be an immense dream for her and an excellent springboard for her volunteer projects. Italy has never managed to win the crown, so now is the perfect time.
