Former Miss Earth finalist Diamond Langi was hailed the new Miss Universe New Zealand in glittering ceremonies held August 17.
The 27-year-old stylist and musician from Auckland bested 13 other candidates for the title and the right to represent the country at the 2019 Miss Universe competition.
Police officer Hannah McCabe placed first runner-up, while Jayda Ormsby-Northcott finished second runner-up. Lydia Smit and Charissa Rehu,were third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
Langi, of Tongan heritage, represented Tonga in Miss Earth 2017 and finished in the Top 16. Prior to that, she won Face of Beauty International in 2013. She has a masters degree in styling and is currently taking up a bachelor’s degree in acting and performing arts.
Miss Universe New Zealand is decided 50% by the judges and 50% by public vote.
New Zealand won the Miss Universe crown in 1983 with Lorraine Downes.
