Cynthia Lucero Ugalde was no newcomer to beauty contests. She had collected numerous beauty titles all the way back when she was just a child. She was also Miss Philippine Air Force in 1957, Miss Press Photography of the Philippines in 1958 and Miss Education at the University of Santo Tomas in 1961. In 1962, she joined the search for a representative of the Philippines to the Miss International Beauty Contest beating out 6 other candidates that included a soon-to-be Miss Philippines, Lalaine Bennett. At Long Beach, for the Miss International contest, she was a finalist in the Miss Photogenic award placing 5th. After the contest, Cynthia finished her Education degree, got married and immigrated to the United States.
