New Miss Universe regulations force the famous pageant to change its date for the first time since 1947

CARTAGENA, October 13 — An official press release issued on Tuesday by the Concurso Nacional de Belleza of Colombia, signed by its President Raimundo Pizarro, confirmed that for the first time since 1947, the popular Señorita Colombia pageant will move from its traditional schedule of November to take place in March 2017.

According to the press release, the change of date was a direct order coming from the Miss Universe Organization and IMG (owners of the pageant) stating that all national license holders need to move their events accordingly and it is forbidden to have two reigning queens (some countries elect a representative for the upcoming year before the current queen gets to compete internationally).

The Señorita Colombia pageant has been based in Cartagena since 1947 and is traditionally held every November, to coincide with the dates of the celebrations of Independence. When Paulina Vega won in January 2015, her succesor had already been elected; Ariadna Gutiérrez.

The press release also states, according to Angulo, the confirmation from IMG that the 65th Miss Universe Pageant will officially take place in January 2017 in a city and country to be announced soon. The new rules indicate that there can only be one reigning queen and if given the case there are two simultaneous queens, only one of them will be able to compete in Miss Universe.

To avoid this confusion, and citing that Colombia’s participation in Miss Universe is extremely important, Angulo along with new franchise holders RCN Television, decided to move the competition to March. The winner will then participate in the Miss Universe 2017 pageant expected to be held in later in the year.

This is stupid! They should better organize MU final in 2016, not in 2017! Like it was national directors fault that MUO is so messy and not in the summer anymore!

I think its a horrible idea and there were no issues like that when the pageant was consistently taking place during May-August window. MUO messed up big time in the past few years and struggled to find suitable venues and to organize a decent pageant. Shame on them

The sash always says VENEZUELA UNIVERSO.
That's why there is the issue if she may go to to MW 2016 or not because Keisy's sash only says MISS VENEZUELA.

Aside from Venezuela , Serbia and Myanmar already crowned their representative for 2017

Before, this is not a problem since MU is being held May or June or July or even August where the current titleholder of Venezuela , Colombia , etc is the one who is competing. Unlike today MU is held December and worse! MU 2016 will be held in 2017

They need to go back to having MU in the summer. MUO needs to get their act together and stop scrambling at the last minute to find a host city.

I wouldnt mind if Miss Universe Serbia 2017 cant compete, since I dont like her at all Very Happy

but I hope that Bojana will compete in january, it would be shame to
eliminate her since she is preparing for pageant more than year already.

what about rummor that IMG wants that national org.sends winners and not runner ups in MU? Is it true?
