Re: Michelle Rouillard (COLOMBIA 2009)
The unveiling of the former Miss Colombia
In exclusive interview with Michelle Rouillard abou Senorita Colombia. The former Miss Colombia delivered a few months the crown and now she uncovers her body and soul for the next edition of SoHo.
At 23 years, not only is the most beautiful woman of Colombia, as evidenced by the title of Miss Colombia 2008-2009 National Beauty Contest, but perhaps the most complete: she studied International Business in Canada and obviously has sense of humor and spontaneity. And more has like other people critical temperament. Maybe that's why she broke taboos and a few months after delivering the crown encouraged uncovering body and soul to SoHo. With you, Michelle Rouillard, Queen independent.
The first question has to do with these photos. Why a former Miss Colombia, pure and virginal image, decides to strip?
Precisely why I want to resume my career in modeling, and an image so organized and so placed as that of a queen is not very useful for projects and what I want to do. I had thought about taking pictures of this kind, but I liked the team and I thought it was a good opportunity to break, to free me, to turn the page of being Senorita Colombi.
You are in Popayan, a conservative city. Don´t you care about the reaction that can be produced by these photos?
Just as the hair cut during being queen, if I started to worry about what everyone says I would not do nothing. There will be many people who will say I went too far such a short time after delivering the crown. But I do not think so: I think when opportunities are presented is better to take them.
What do you think is going to say Raimundo Angulo when you see the magazine?
I do not know. Sure it will cause much surprise.
"And not afraid to react badly?
Not at all. I'm sure that he will respect my decision. It is true that he has a paternal authority over some women who have passed through the competition. But the truth is that this is not my case. I took the pictures because I wanted to, because they are aesthetic and because I am a model. And a model takes pictures.
Tell us one thing: how hard it is to be Miss Colombia?
Although eveyrone not believe, it is hard work. Every day was different from the other, full of commitments to support social events to raise funds. Throughout Colombia were at banquets, fashion shows, photo shoots, many hours every week, often with the five finalists, to support various social programs.
Do you have any idea how much money did you earn?
I do not know the exact number, but for example in a single event raised 600 million pesos. At least until I was the queen because the queen could be only two hours in the events.
How so?
Those are the rules. There were many more, some, in my opinion, outdated. I'll give examples: Men can not hold fingers over shoulder Miss Colombia, the Miss Colombia never eat or drink when she attends an event, there cannot be a photo of Miss Colombia in which the legs are not closed or screw position, which is one over the other. And a lot of other similar protocols.
"And that was not a little absurd?
But these were the rules. Every miss had her guardian who go behind her and watch her, forbide her to take eat, forbidding anyone to pass you hand over the shoulder: a kind of police personnel, rather.
But to take care of you from others?
Yes, of course! Because many people are disrespectful that crosses the line and for that I also monitor compliance.
And was not hard to hold much discipline?
In fact, what it cost me more work was put up with nagging if you do not answer the phone. They said: "If you are going to fix the nails and will be cut off, we have to call to say that she's doing her nails." Do not answer the phone was really something serious. It was my turn to enter the cell to the bathroom. And that was Saturday, Sunday and holidays, 24 hours were entitled to call me. The cellular caused me nightmares.
What else was difficult at that time?
The complete control of the organization exerts on you. Not only they call you any day, any time and scold you if you do not answer, but also you must consult every trip, every step you do so for personal reasons.
Do you remember where?
Once, for example, they didn´t let me go to a fashion event in the country. I wanted to go to see the work of a designer friend, and I forbade it. And again I didn´t warn them that I visited spa on my own and they just tell not to go there again.
It sounds strong, as if to appropriate his whole life ...
But I do not want to be see like a victim. The truth is that I was queen because I wanted to, nobody forced me. And to get into that, I had to keep the rules. Though: some rules seem to me strong and unnecessary and mostly unknown to almost everyone, including me.
What else do you put limitations?
Well: Queen can not give opinions, you should always be as neutral as possible. But the hardest thing to endure was not a specific prohibition, but the accumulation of all. Surveillance. Asking permission for everything. Having to answer the phone even in the days of rest to avoid nagging. Raimundo feel the authority at all times.
How often called Raimundo?
The organization called me several times daily. Raymond, I know: it could be between 3 and 8 weeks or so. But almost always communicated with me by someone else who worked for the contest.
So much nagging?
Sometimes intimidating left messages that no one knew if they were quiet but firm comments, or terrible scolding tone strong. Twice it was explicit. I can not remember why, but he said harshly: "You were not one before the competition, you were nobody" and repeated it three times, if he did not know consciously but I think that kind of talk make you feel bad anyone.
It seems that was not very happy with the contest ...
The truth is that I have many things to thank them, but I also would like to change some others. I told you about half the intimidation of the organization on the queen, that one can feel, that kind of fear, psychological pressure. I think I could take the matter in a less strong. We also commented that some things could be less outdated. And I think, beyond that, they should meterle lot more infrastructure, more support for the queen. Everyone assumed to be Miss Colombia is a work full of amenities, and the truth is that there are many hardships.
What, for example?
For example: The four finalists have to use all year round the same clothes they were given in Cartagena. Do not give them more. These dresses and those shoes are not going nowhere. Like Miss Colombia I occasionally had more clothes, but not finalists. There is no sponsor at both the Miss Colombia and finalists to do nail or fix her hair. No where to get a massage, a treatment for skin. It sounds fanciful, but remember that care for the beauty in that office is the center of the profession, not in vain called Queen of Beauty. And they do not assume anything. All cosmetic issue touches you buy one of whatever they earn. And oh! you are not divine and perfect, because everybody comes up, starting with the same organization.
What it took him more support?
Materially many. For logistical facilities, the agency always leave Bogotá. So you must live in Bogota, but the rule has no place for one to choose to stay. I had to stay at my uncles, who are the most generous people in the world. I do not want to sound like a spoiled child who complains. But if this rule is supposed to paralyze the country, and give them stick open to candidates, and people think of Miss Universe almost like the World Cup, and if it is an event that moves so many millions and so much publicity and pattern in the media and everything, the least one expects is that the Miss Colombia, it should work almost every day for the organization, have the minimum conditions which currently lacks.
Is it good business to be queen? "They get a salary?
I do not think anything bad, although I suppose some would think that Miss Colombia wins all the money in the world, and is not well.
What makes a Miss Colombia?
Having been elected Miss Colombia will automatically win 30 million pesos. But do not the give one, but you are distributed in the 12 months durin being queen. So you get a salary of about two and a half million a month. The last money they give you the day you give the crown.
Do they give you social security, health, pensions?
We have as part of the prizes for health insurance that lasts a year. The other social security no. One of the best prize for me was a gym membership for five years. They also give us two contracts with sponsors and a grant, but with the restriction that applies only to higher education. Anyway, all of that sum.
What gave her per diem travel?
No, but I cover all expenses.
Well, the controversial haircut, do you also had to ask permission?
Of course, contrary to what many people think I do I asked permission. I told them I wanted to make a cut ... Even I sent the references, and told me to do that. The thing is that I needed the court, because by using extensions hair was killing me. Because the prototype of a queen is a thing so standardized that everything does not work out from there. Since I had hair till my shoulders, so I had to wear extensions.
A parenthesis: why in these photos comes with short hair and long hair?
I wanted to be versatile, to show the same story in two different looks.
Let us return to the standard image of the queens: who thinks he has established?
Have been those 'gurus' who live in the reign-quotes around the word very gurus-and like most girls who dream of being there and are so small, they eat story to what they say. As there are fifty thousand years, they are almost part of the institution and the history of the competition, they are left enrapture.
You went with who exactly?
The whole country knows and hears mention all the years ... always the thread of each year. They make beautiful dresses and are true craftsmen, but they are also wrong in some respects, as in the concepts of beauty and elegance they handle. These characters often are driven more by passion than by the professionalism and I do not think it´s right.
Raimundo If you were, what would you do to improve the contest?
He has to realize that catapults you to work for the reign and feels very comfortable with the social work it performs, it is very pretty. But one gets the crown it´s because they want opportunities, because they want to project. And in that sense is a company where the two parties should win. I felt I was giving to the kingdom and they were not doing the same extent. You work in social work and they should work harder for the projection of the queen. To be more open, to listen to proposals, that allow the queen to devote more time to prepare for Miss Universe ...
"As queen thought the slaughter, and agitated nighters were worth, which later came the reward?
No, and I want to make clear that I have no grudges. I have many thanks indeed. I grew a lot, and being queen has rewarding moments. See some kids happy when you come to visit is very cute. Knowing the work of institutions, single mothers, there's nothing as thrilling. I was shocked that we made a visit to El Salado, feel the hope of the people, the desire to do things and recover after that slaughter is a wonderful thing. She leaves one great spiritual wealth. After the reign one looks at the world through different eyes, one more is known. But I think there are things that could be reviewed.
Do not you think that you were to hard with competition? In 75 years no Queen had said things like that just said in this interview.
Hard not, honest. I say nothing from the bitterness. I feel gratitude. But thousands of children in this country dream of being queen, and I think they should know these things. I am not a hypocrite or ungrateful. What I said here too I told people in the competition. The queen and the runners work very hard, and there should be a closer support of the organization.
Did you have any unpleasant experience while you were queen?
Nobody gave me pica-pica dust in the mattress or the like, but let's say a lot happens reign. Some beautiful, some regular and others ugly. I think I'll tell you all about it at some point, I do not know. Suddenly I write a book. Colombians would be interesting, so closely following the event, know their scenes. Maybe I'm game. We'll see.
