MISS UNIVERSE 1986: Bárbara Palacios (Venezuela)

Bárbara Pérez Hernández (born December 9, 1963), better known simply as Bárbara Palacios, is the third contestant from Venezuela to win the Miss Universe pageant. She did so in Panama on July 21, 1986.

From 1990 to 1996 she was the co-presenter of the pageant that crowned her in the first place, Miss Venezuela. Miss Palacios came back in the 1999 edition for a brief moment onstage with two other presenters, Carmen Victoria Pérez and Mayte Delgado.

Ironically Bárbara came to host the show when Pérez was let go over a contract dispute. Delgado was 3rd runner-up to Palacios in 1986 and became a Miss Venezuela presenter when Palacios was let go.

Bárbara Palacios was one the 5 former titleholders to be honored in 2001 during the Miss Universe pageant in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. The other 4 were Anne Marie Pohtamo from Finland, Irene Sáez from Venezuela, Deborah Carthy Deu from Puerto Rico and Lupita Jones from Mexico.

Bárbara Palacios is the daughter of Spanish-born television actor Jorge Palacios in his first marriage. Her parents were divorced. She lives in Florida and has a line of jewelry that bears her name.

I have to admit that I did not like Barbara when she won, I did not find her pretty at all. But nowadays I like her, she looks so different and GORGEOUS!! She is like wine, better every year... cheers
