Miss Earth: ready to crown its 19th environmental queen

After four jam-packed weeks of activities, the 85 delegates of Miss Earth 2019 will finally step on the big stage to compete for the prestigious title. The grand coronation is set on Saturday, October 26 at the luxurious Cove Manila in Okada Manila.

The 19th edition of the advocacy-driven pageant takes on a floral theme to celebrate the national flowers of participating countries, some of which, unfortunately, are in the brink of extinction. The theme is a reminder of how nature could be brought back to life if people from all walks of life would show genuine care for its protection and preservation.

Prior to the grand coronation, the delegates went through three preliminary judging rounds where they were evaluated based on figure and form, beauty of face and poise, and intelligence and environmental awareness. It was a tough call for the respective panel of judges in each round as the delegates showed how competitive they are.

Award-winning automotive journalist and CNN Philippines anchor James Deakin returns to host the event for the third time. The show will also feature special performance by Grammy-nominee R & B singer and songwriter Shontelle. This will be the second time that Shontelle graces the Miss Earth stage, and she will also be part of the judging panel.

The highlight of the two-hour television special is when Miss Earth 2018 Phuong Khanh Nguyen of Vietnam will crown her successor. Phuong Khanh’s victory last year is the first for Vietnam not only in Miss Earth, but also in other major international pageants. She will be joined by her court, Melanie Mader of Austria and Valeria Ayos of Colombia to crown the elemental winners.

Miss Earth 2019 will be aired live on Fox+ and in television networks in Latin America. The finals will also be streamed live on Miss Earth’s Facebook page, while Philippine local airing will be on Sunday, October 27, on ABS-CBN Sunday’s Best.
