Czech Miss 2009 Iveta Lutovska is a benefactress of the ADRA health aid organisation in Kenya
Czech Miss 2009 was introduced by ADRA international humanitarian organisation representatives as a benefactress of health aid in Kenya on Thursday, June 4 at a press conference in Prague. The beauty queen is to visit Africa in cooperation with this organisation to provide assistance to the health workers in Itibo, Kenya. She is due to travel to Kenya on June 24, and, prior to her departure, she will take a medical training so that she can work with medical equipment and provide assistance to the wounded and sick. It must be said that they appreciate every helping hand in Itibo. The village and its health centre are situated in one of the poorest areas of Kenya, while the centre is being developed by ADRA, which operates in 125 countries including the Czech Republic. Iveta is to spend two weeks in this health centre, and will be back in the Czech Republic on July 6. This won't be her last visit to Africa, however. She wants to keep coming back to Itibo and provide further assistance.

The Czech Miss fell in love with Kenya during the training of the Miss finalists there in January of this year. "Thanks to the training, I've for the first time visited a third-world country. Kenya, it's not only beautiful hotels and beaches. We all visited a little village, and there I got to know children that don't have what kids in my country have. Despite this, they are happy in their own way. People in Kenya grew on me, they were friendly, and I have decided to return their love and provide help where it's necessary," said Iveta.

The health centre in Itibo is the only one of its kind in a poor area called Nyamira, and it serves for about 200,000 people. It was considerably run-down until recently, while there was also a lack of equipment and medicine. The ADRA Czech Republic created a project to modernise the centre, and the outpatient building, housing for health personnel and sanitary facilities were reconstructed in 2006.

As of that time, the centre has also had a new terrain car at its disposal to transport those who are seriously ill. In the next year, the organisation completed the construction of the maternity clinic, that is now equipped with modern medical equipment. Also, the construction of dental surgery was launched last year, and is now used by dentists to provide basic and acute treatment to patients. The Czech students of medicine took their internship programmes in the Itibo health centre for the first time in the same year.

ADRA also has future plans for the centre. Apart from other things, it wants to build a sick-bed ward for children with malaria, for adult patients suffering from various illnesses and also for patients recovering after surgery. The health centre would then be awarded a hospital status. The centre is also supported by the Czech Embassy in Kenya, and the Czech Ambassador Margita Fuchsova is immensely interested in the project.

The ADRA humanitarian organisation was established in 1956 in the U.S.A. Since then it has been assisting people suffering from wars and natural catastrophes, while it has also been providing aid to distressed areas around the world. The organisation established its operation in the Czech Republic in 1992, and, apart from other activities, it provided assistance there during the floods in the years 1997, 1998 and 2002.
