Miss Bahamas Universe 2002 - Nadia Rodgers-Albury

2002 was the year that the Bahamas saw a change of directors for the Miss Bahamas pageants where the delegate chosen is sent to Miss Universe (looking at it now that was probably the biggest mistake ever).....The new directors were Ms. Gaynell Rolle and her father Mr. Theophilus Fritz. They changed the name to the Miss Bahamas Universe Organization. That year seemed promising, with a website (wow, finally Bahamas was stepping into the 21st century ) and a wide variety of contestants (there were 13 entries)....There were some stunners that year but nonetheless the young lady who walked away with the crown, prestigious title, and the opportunity to represent the Bahamas at the 2002 Miss Universe Pageant in Puerto Rico was none other than Nadia Rodgers-Albury representing Barcardi-Limon (her sponsor).....

Beautiful Nadia was crowned by Miss Universe 2001 Denise Quinones in a grand coronation event held at the Rainforest Theatre. Standing at 5ft 7 Nadia is the only Bahamian woman to the hold the titles of Miss Commonwealth Bahamas and Miss Bahamas Universe. With a wonderful sense of style and savy.....She was considered one of the more fashionable and well poised delegates that year.....She also presented stunning photos and one of the Nicest Bahamian national Costumes.

Like 2004, 2002 was a very very very tough year.......Who could forget the stunning beauties.....and the infamous "Blackout" where beautiful black delegates from Colombia, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Ghana, Nigeria, Sweden and the Cayman Islands were "SHUTOUT"........No one can deny that winner Miss Russia - Oxana Fedorova (then dethroned after a few months) was undeniably the most beautiful woman ever crowned Miss Universe (well in my opinion even tho I think Angela Visser is very very very beautiful as well)......Other stunning delegates were shut out including the home girl Isis Casuldac - Miss Puerto Rico.

Although she was among the shorter delegates, she will be remembered for her radiance and stunning beauty....even though she didn't place (although it would've been nice to hear her called, but I know the year was really tough) no one will forget her sense of Fashion and Style......(she was a Miss Soft and Beautiful model and she has done ads for Versace and Occi Neri)

Thanks Desi.....If only the Bahamas was consistently sending prepared delegates I believe we would've placed several times.....but lack of consistency, neglect and poor to non-existent training has really caused us.....I don't know what the future holds but if Gaynell remains the national director then Bahamas will never place.
