The iconic theme song for the Miss Hong Kong Pageant is actually the winning song from the Eurovision Song Contest 1971,Un Banc, Un Arbre, Une Rue made popular by the singer Séverine.

I remember when i was a kid, Miss Hong Kong pageant was my favourite TV show and my mum and me used to give scores to each of the contestant. LOl,, a part of my childhood memories. And i used to rooting for Miss Hong Kong in international pageants like MU or MW before Mainland China allows women to take part in beauty contest... Sweet memories indeed.

Why Hong Kong didint seend any more cont for Miss Universe ..??? the last time was in 2000...

So far there's no accurate answer for why HK stop participating in MU. However many believes that there's a clash of contract between TVB (the organizer of MHK pageant, also the leading TV Corporation in Overseas Chinese community) and MUO.

Moreover, I guess TVB is no longer keen to invest dozens of $$ on MHK winners in order to keep the MU franchise fees as well as purchase gowns, cosmetic products, national costumes and national gifts,etc..for MU since MHK went unplaced every year after Pauline Yeung (4th RU @ MU 1988). They rather make the MHK winner to be a famous Actress (that makes $$).... Afterall, TVB is a TV station, not a professional Beauty Pageant Organizer...

PS: If Hong Kong still keep sending delegates to MU, by right they should have another placement... Look at what Japan (2003), Thailand (2006) and Korea (2007) experienced... All of them finally obtained a placement since 1988. All these 3 Asian nations, along with Hong Kong, placing in the Top 5 in Taipei 20 years ago...

Great choice.. Actually Sonija Kwok and Michelle Reis are known to be the two most facially-stunning Miss Hong Kong winners in the history of that pageant. Both Sonija and Michelle won Miss Chinese International pageants (In 1988 and 2000 respectively). Sonija, along with Nina Ricci of Philippines and Kim Young Joo of Korea were my favourite Asian delegates in MU 2000. One of them should place in the Top 10 that year.
From the source of Wikipedia: She (Sonija Kwok) did make some impact though, making the top ten of the Miss Photogenic polls, and was featured in the front image of the Miss Universe website during that time.

Sonija is a successful TV actress nowadays. Very Happy

Michelle is an Euroasian, she was born in Macau with Potuguese and Chinese origin.. Same as Ana Barroso Wink
