Miss Earth Ghana 2012 launched
There have been and still are several beauty pageants or different reasons but one that need the attention of all and sundry is the Miss Earth Pageant which is has been launched in Ghana.
The pageant which comes off in January 2012 would source participation from tertiary institutions, and auditioning will be conducted in January.
The Southern sector will be auditioned on 15th January (Greater Accra, Eastern Region, Western Region, Central Region, and Volta Region).
The Northern Sector will be auditioned on 22nd January, (Ashanti Region, Brong Ahafo Region, Northern Region, Upper East, and Upper West).
After the auditions, 20 finalists will go through several levels of competition in the battle for the ambassadorial crown of Miss Earth Ghana.
The 20 finalists will go into camping on 30th January and stay on for three to four weeks. This will be a period of rigorous environmental activities and will also be a period of public participation through text messaging to determine the 12 finalists that will compete at the grand finale.
The environmental activities include tree planting exercises, which would take place in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and the Northern Regions alongside visit to selected schools to give talks on environmental preservation.
According to the National Geographic, the world climate is changing more rapidly than ever before with the main cause being human activities.
As this happens, increasing drought and declining water supply will face all poorer countries, thereby exposing hundreds of millions of people to the increasing risk of water shortages. Cereal yields will continue to drop in Africa.
Illness and death will rise from heat waves, storms, floods, droughts, and fire outbreaks; and also a rise in malnutrition among children of poor countries.
In recent times, the world has suffered from environmental disasters such as we had in Haiti, China, Japan, and presently Thailand. And in Ghana, just a little over two weeks ago, we experienced another flooding that, once again claimed lives.
Statistics have it that these are precipitates of human activities that go against the environment.
For the past eight years, 1st Royal Events, the Franchise holders of this august contest, and who have leased it out to the two collaborating companies-Marketing Bees Network (MBN) and Events Galore, have ensured Ghana’s participation in the international event in Philippines and other countries so far.
These ladies are taken through a special grooming on environmental issues including documentaries and sent out to represent Ghana.
Against the background of National Environmental issues such as flooding, bush burning, deforestation, littering of beaches, Miss Earth Ghana delegates shall embark on a series of environmental activities with special emphasis on afforestation – tree planting, in line with the international theme and in tandem with United Nations environmental theme for this year – THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF FORESTS, 2011, Our theme is “CHANGING THE FORESTS ON THE PLATFORM OF BEAUTY”.
Miss Earth Ghana would win an official car, GH ¢ 10,000. 00, a wardrobe for one year, and a ticket to the international event.
