according to Global Beauties......
After 58 years, Israel will not compete in Miss World 2013
Miss Israel 2013 will be missed in MW 2013
With a record number of nations participating in Miss World 2013 in Indonesia, 129, one will be highly missed: Israel. This Middle Eastearn country had been taking part year after year in Miss World since 1955. It debuted in 1953, missed the 1954 contest, in London, and competed in all editions of Miss World ever since, up to now.
Earlier this year, Yityish Aynaw, once an Ethiopian orphan, became the first black woman crowned Miss Israel. She made worldwide news and it was announced that she would compete in Miss World 2013. However, her name never appeared in the official Miss World website, and recently the spot reserved for the Israeli representative was removed as well, meaning that the country will not compete in Bali and Jakarta in September. As for Aynaw, she will compete in Miss Universe instead.
Israel is one of the 10 most traditional nations in Miss World history, with 1 winner and 23 placements, including several finalists and runner-ups.
Neither the Miss Israel organziers, nor the MWO, has explained why Israel will be absent from the World beauty stage this year, but the answer might be political: Israel and Indonesia, the host country for Miss World 2013, do not maintain formal diplomatic ties. As it has been happening for many years, Israeli citizens can only get visas for single entry business travel. Tourist visas are available for group travel through travel agencies.
Nonetheless, it is pure speculation at this point, as nothing official has been reported yet.
One thing is for sure: Israel will be missed in Miss World 2013.
Other ‘Missing Misses’
Other nations with some Miss World tradition will also be missed in this year’s contest, like for example, Grenada, which has one Miss World winner, from the year 1970. Egypt, a country which has been suffering with political turmoil, won’t be seen either competing in Indonesia. Let’s remember that in 1954 Egypt won the Miss World crown. And then there’s Lebanon, a country that has not had a Miss World winner yet, but which had not missed a single edition since the early 1990′s.
But as they say, the show must go on, and Miss World will do it with pomp and cirscumstance, after all, 129 participating countries is an impressive record by any main international beauty pageant.
