Are you watching the Olympics?
So far I have watched every night and am enjoying them very much. Was very happy for Evan Lysacek last night winning the gold in skating. Glad for Felix Loch winning gold in luge. I thought Lindsay Vonn's reaction at winning gold was very nice! It is fun to see all the different countries competing.

Re: Are you watching the Olympics?
Sure! It´s not easy here to watch it during a night, but nevermind. I usually suckle my little boy (OMG, it sounds...) at that early early morning time
Martina Sablikova is our queen (speed skating) and we all are waiting how our hockey boys will rock the competition

The "4 in group" snowboarding is very funny! Mostly the last one is the winner, because all of 3 others fall down.

Re: Are you watching the Olympics?
As a finn MY SPORTS ARE:
SKI JUMPING!!!
Our beloved JANNE AHONEN so would deserve an individual medal. He is the BEST SKI JUMPER ever, but lacks of an individual medal from the Olympic Games. He's always fourt And I'm afraid he won't get a medal in Long Hill, the competition is just too tough!!
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
I hope one of our girls will bring a medal in some event. So far it's been a big dissapointment
ICE HOCKEY
Well DUH!!!! You can't be a finn unless you follow OUR LIONS!!! GO TEAM FINLAND!!!!! We made it to the finals in Torino, whose to say that could not happen again? NEVER EVER underestimate FINNISH LIONS, cause you just never know
Then of course we have medal hopes in NORDIC COMBINED and WOMENS ALPINE SKIING!! Keeping my fingers crossed
SO FAR we have ONE medal and it came from SNOWBOARD;MEN'S HALFPIPE. GO PEETU PIIROINEN!!!!
Then of course FIGURE SKATING
So far, so good. My favourites won in pairs. And MEN!! GO EVAN LYSACEK!!!! You showed that arrogant Plushenko that quad is not the only thing you have to do, to win.
It's not easy to watch these games. Last night MEN'S FREE started at 03.00 am and it was almost 07.00 am in the morning when we finally had out winner. It's tough, but who cares!

Re: Are you watching the Olympics?
And what about OUR BEAUTIFUL Figure Skaters, KIIRA KORPI and LAURA LEPISTÖ
Kiira Korpi, EUROPEAN bronze medalist 2007
One of the most beautiful athlete's in VANCOUVER, no doubt!!! We love our Kiira here in Finland!
And then Laura Lepistö, EUROPEAN champion 2009, EUROPEAN silver medalist 2010, EUROPEAN bronze medalist 2008
If everything goes right, both of them have chances to top 10. But as for medal, don't think so!
GO GIRLS!!!

Re: Are you watching the Olympics?
The young man from the Czech Republic that skated to Zorba the Greek was one of my favorites. I bet he will come back to the next Olympics and do really well. He had really good jumps. Very high in the air.
I saw the Czech speed skater win her gold and it was awesome!
Also saw the man from Finland take the silver in snowboarding and he was good!
So good to see that I am not alone in my Olympic fever, haha!
Great replies everyone! Good luck to all the countries, especially the ones represented here by the pageant-mania members.

I think one canadien magazine named Kiira the only reason to watch the Olympic Games!
She could easily be MISS FINLAND!
Too bad there always seems to be some kind of trustissue when she skates. She always does great in short, but then has troubles in free. Or then the other way around. Two clean programs seems to be an issue with her

I wish she would get her head together. Cause I KNOW she has the skill, but her head keeps messing her up.
I think some have to do with the enermous pressure she is under because of finnish media. The media tends to just focus on her beauty and is all over her. Somewhere along the line she just lost the plot and wasn't able to fully focus on practise.
Media can be so overwhelming sometimes. Like remember what happened to Carolina Kostner in Torino!!

yeap, but to be honest i agree with some media saying that if that had happened in Oslo,Moscow or Helsinki(under the same circumstances) they would have been eaten alive with the critism and all.Anyway,it was really really really sad.

Re: Are you watching the Olympics?
Well, Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk took the bronze home, but honestly I DON'T GET how she wasn't disqualified!!
She skied against the rules
It was 15 km Pursuit (7.5 Classic+7.5 Free). And before the FREE part, she skied freestyle to the change BEFORE the RED LINE! You are not allowed to ski freestyle during Classic part. That is against the rules. And she still got the keep her placing!!
Oh well, what do I know!!

Finland 5 - Germany 0
And Teemu Selänne became the all-time points leader in Olympic hockey history
Vancouver (AFP)
Teemu Selanne became the all-time points leader in Olympic hockey history, collecting an assist on Finland's third goal Friday as the 2006 silver medallists trounced Germany 5-0.
The Finnish Flash assisted on Kimmo Timonen's second goal of the game for his Olympic-record 37th point, surpassing the previous mark held by Russian legend Valeri Kharlamov, Czechoslovakia's Vlastimil Bubnik and Canada's Harry 'Moose' Watson.
"It is a big honour," said Selanne, who is playing with a plastic face mask to protect a broken jaw.
"But it is one of those situations where you really enjoy it more when your career is done and over."
Selanne, who turns 40 in July, has a silver medal from Turin and bronze at the 1998 Nagano Olympics and would like nothing better than to end his Olympic career with a gold.
Selanne helped set up Timonen's goal on the powerplay late in the second for his 17th assist to go with 20 career goals. His wife and children were among the crowd at Canada Hockey Place to witness the event.
"If somebody had told me 30 years ago what's going to happen I would say you're crazy," Selanne said. "I played a long time with a lot of good players and that is what makes it all happen."
Selanne's teammate on the Anaheim Ducks Saku Koivu made sure he retrieved the historic puck from the referee and gave it to Selanne.
"Teemu has been the same for Finnish hockey as Jari Kurri," said defenceman Sami Salo who got the other assist on the Timonen goal. "He's a stable guy and the numbers he has put up are unbelievable."
Heading into the tournament Selanne needed two points to break the record. He tied it on Wednesday, getting another assist in a 5-1 Finland victory over Belarus.
CHEERS, TEEMU!!!!!
