NBC Severs Ties With Donald Trump, Miss USA, and Miss Universe
http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/entertainment/2015/06/29/nbc-telemundo-announce-will-cut-ties-with-donald-trump/
Just days after the Spanish-language network announced it would be breaking ties with Donald Trump over his racist comments about Mexicans, NBC followed suit.
“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump,” the network said in a statement released Monday.
This means that the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, which are part of a venture between NBC and Trump, will not air on NBC. Trump will not be participating in “The Apprentice” as he had already indicated.
NBC said “Celebrity Apprentice” will continue without the mogul.
The move comes after a petition asking NBC to fire Donald Trump collected more than 200,000 signatures.
Posted on the Change.org website, the petition called out NBC for choosing business over "ethics, principles and values" in the wake of Trump's recent statements when declaring his candidacy for president. Among his remarks, the GOP hopeful portrayed immigrants from Mexico as "bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists, and some, I assume, are good people."
In his presidential announcement earlier this month, Trump said: "Nobody can build a fence like me. I would build a wall like nobody can build a wall. And nobody comes in illegally anymore … I build great buildings all over the world. I would have Mexico pay for it. Believe me. They will pay for it because they have really ripped this country off.”
Last week, Univision announced it was canceling its coverage of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants because of Trump’s comments.
“At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country,” Univision said in a statement last week. “We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12th or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.”
Trump retaliated by saying he would sue the network for “hundreds of millions of dollars” for severing ties with him and the Miss Universe pageant organization.
The 69-year-old Republican presidential hopeful also banned Univision officers and representatives from using the golf courses and facilities at Trump National Doral in South Florida.

What no one says: Trump speaks the truth. But as a as someone running for presidency he must better watch how he tells things. He's offensive and an idiot.

Well said. Trump should have been more careful in his wording, but that is part of being Trump. He says what he thinks and doesn't pull his punches. And no doubt he is a shrewd business man or he wouldn't be where he is now (and have all that $$$$$).
And why is NBC deciding to pull the plug two weeks after he spoke? If they were so offended, I would think they would have taken immediate action until of waiting a couple of weeks. Also very unfair to the state of Louisiana who were counting on showcasing their state during Miss USA.

... I know and I'm glad about this. He didn't say all Mexicans are criminals, but he said that illegal immigration is a crime and in many cases brings crime into the country. That's a fact. But crime exists in the U.S., with or without Mexicans. The first thing to change IMHO is the law about gun possession. But that's another topic. Don't get me wrong, I like the Mexican fellows! What would the U.S. be without them? But I also get Trump 's point. There are similar problems in other parts in the world, too. Again: no need to become offensive, Mr. Trump.
I have no understanding for NBC's decision either.

Re: NBC Severs Ties With Donald Trump, Miss USA, and Miss Universe
This was on the news again last night and Donald Trump was a host on the O'Reily Factor. I am glad the Miss USA pageant is going on full steam ahead, even though it won't be broadcast on television. I believe they said it would be streamed live unless they find a network to carry the show. Many of the girls were saying how disappointed they are in NBC as they have worked hard to compete for Miss USA and their families are planning to attend the pageant.
I also saw where Natalie Glebova has come forward and accused Mr. Trump of being a racist. Also, the hosts for Miss USA are not participating.
To me, this is political correctness gone overboard. Natalie, if Mr. Trump was so horrible to you, why are you waiting until now to reveal this? As for NBC, stay out of politics and air television programs. Ugh, sick of the entire thing!
Sorry, rant over!

Trump's statement was just an excuse for them to cut ties with a program which has lost quotes over the past years and is going to lose even more. I hate to think that the good times of Miss Universe and Miss USA might be gone... Seriously, who does really care about what Trump says, except some latino guys who feel assaulted?

I understand and support the decision of NBC, Univision and Lupita Jones all the way! How someone like Trump with aversion to Mexicans or Russians and such a big mouth could represent MUO? It's a shame, he has to pay for his words! He has to sell MU and Miss USA before it's not too late!

Re: NBC Severs Ties With Donald Trump, Miss USA, and Miss Universe
Donald Trump on the news again last night discussing the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageant. Many former Miss USA and state delegates are rallying behind the MUO and speaking out in support of Donald Trump. They interviewed Chelsea Cooley (Miss USA 2005) and she had nothing but nice things to say about Donald Trump and about how many jobs (behind the scenes pageant folks and production people) could be affected by what NBC has done. A former Miss New York USA went on to talk about how many local businesses and services go into the pageants and that NBC should have considered the bigger picture.
No doubt, the controversy (as well as the other controversies going on in the USA) will provide great material for the final question. I wouldn't doubt if Trump comes out on top as many may check out the pageant because of all the publicity surrounding the controversy.

Jeannie Mai
Well, that's one way to put it.
Citing Donald Trump 's "ongoing antics," Jeannie Mai reversed her earlier decision and announced Monday that she was stepping down from co-hosting the 2015 Miss USA pageant after all.
Earlier today, Trump called reigning Miss Universe Paulina Vega a "hypocrite" because the Colombian beauty queen both condemned his recent sweeping generalizations about Mexican immigrants and opted to not relinquish her crown.
That comment, presumably combined with the mounting media firestorm against Trump (including NBC and Univision's refusal to air Miss USA next weekend), prompted Mai to change her mind.
PHOTOS: All of the 2016 presidential candidates, so far...
"Last week I announced my heart-felt decision to support the women of Miss USA by remaining on board as a co-host," Mai wrote on Instagram this evening. "My focus was strictly on the women involved, who share the same ethics of hard work, commitment and passion for their careers and causes that I do. I have co-hosted for the last five years various Miss Universe events, and I'm grateful for the many women I've met and friends I've made along the way. I feel terrible that the women competing this year have fallen victim to current events.
"Let me be clear, I condemn the recent words of Mr. Trump, and find them immensely offensive. At the time I made my decision to remain part of the Miss USA pageant, I was under the impression that Mr. Trump would no longer be involved in the production of the show in any capacity what so ever. In addition, given Mr. Trump's ongoing antics, including his most recent episode today with the current Miss Universe, it is clear that Mr. Trump's actions have and will continue to distract focus away from the real stars of the show—the women involved in the pageant.
"Therefore," she continued, "I am respectfully withdrawing from my responsibilities and commitment as co-host of Miss USA. From the beginning, I announced publicly that I was donating my compensation to a worthy charity. Although I will no longer be participating as a co-host, I still want to support the women competing in the pageant. I feel the best way to show that is to lend my support to this year's winner of Miss USA and to make the donation I promised to her platform and charity.
Ladies, you worked so hard to get here. I am proud of who you are and wish you the best of luck Sunday evening."
Mai joins Cheryl Burke, Thomas Roberts, Flo Rida and Emmitt Smith among those who refused to participate in the pageant in the wake of the controversy.
Trump, meanwhile, doubled down on his convictions in a new statement today, arguing that the media had "deliberately distorted" his remarks (here's his full speech from June 16, when he announced he was seeking the Republican nomination for president) and re-noting that the "Mexican Government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States."
The Miss USA 2015 pageant will be airing Sunday night on the Reelz network.

Donald Trump to sell his stakes in pageants
NYPost.com has reported that Donald Trump is looking to sell his stakes in pageants. He has 49 percent stake in Miss Universe Organization and co-owns it with NBCUniversal. The reason for sale is that many parties are approaching him with lucrative offers after NBC and Univision dumped the pageants owned by Mr. Donald Trump after his comments on Mexico. Miss USA 2015 was aired by Reelz and the number of viewers dropped heavily.

Re: NBC Severs Ties With Donald Trump, Miss USA, and Miss Universe
If it is true, that is good that there are interested parties in the pageant. I wonder if this will mean Miss USA, Teen USA, and Universe will no longer reside in the posh Trump Tower apartment. Trump gave the pageant a higher profile, at least here in the US. As for the low ratings on Reelz, not many cable packages offer it. On my cable package, it's not even a HD channel. I didn't even know I had the Reelz channel until I looked for it to watch Miss USA.
If Trump sells his interests in the pageant, perhaps the pageant will emerge all new and revitalized with a more diverse selection of winners and finalists rather than rotating the crown between the same countries every year. And hopefully a return to the 2 hour format. 3 hours is way too long!
