Miss England comes to Southport

After 11 years, the Miss England grand finals will be returning to the North West of England.

50 regional winners from across the nation will arrive in Southport for the two day event on the 21 & 22 July vying for the crown and the first prize worth £25,000.

Since 2005 the national final to find England’s candidate for Miss World has been successfully held in the Midlands, London and Devon.

The Ramada Plaza Hotel, Southport will be host to this years 50 finalists and a fast moving fashion show style final will be held in the Southport Theatre & Convention Centre’s Floral Hall on the 21 July, attracting family, friends and sponsors of the competition from across England.

Enda Rylands General Manager of the Ramada Plaza Southport said: “We are delighted to be welcoming the 50 final contestants to our fantastic resort and look forward to offering them the very best hospitality in the region throughout their stay with us here at the Ramada Plaza Southport.”

Even though the Miss England competition is being held at the seaside, the event has moved away from the bathing beauty image.

Instead contestants will take part in a series of qualifying rounds that include sports/fitness, fundraising, talent & an Eco-fashion show whereby contestants are given the chance to use their creative skills and ingenuity to come up with an outfit made from recycled materials.

Mark Catherall, Sefton Council’s Head of Service for Tourism said: “We are delighted that Southport has the opportunity to host such a fabulous event.

“The resort has an unrivalled reputation when it comes to hosting national conferences and major public events such as the Southport Air Show, The British Musical Fireworks Championship and of course – The Southport Flower Show.
