Governor's Ball leaves Miss Universe Italy dizzy
MANILA -- Miss Universe Italy Sophia Sergio had a fainting spell during the
Governor's Ball at the SMX Convention Center on Monday night.
It was during the "Parade of Nations" segment when the 24-year-old beauty queen started feeling dizzy.

Hello to all my European friends here.
First of all my opinion will not affect the result of Miss Universe.
This is just based from my observation
After I've seen all the candidates in person and up close. In my own opinion Slovak Republic is the best candidate in Europe. She is tall and a head-turner , so gorgeous in person!
I've seen Belgium (she has a pretty face), France (is just ok for me) and so on
Let's go back to Zuzana Kollarova.
The first time I saw her was in the hotel and she is not wearing her sash. I can't stop looking on her at the same time I am thinking from what country she is. I thought she is Miss Barbados, but the face feature is different. So I tried to think other possible candidates and still I really can't recognize her that time. But all I can say is a stunner!!
I just learned she is Miss Slovak Republic when I saw her photos online.
Last night at the red carpet for the Governors Ball. Again she got my attention. I have to say she's the one who stoodout at last night's governor's ball, her gown really drew attention plus she has an enigmatic aura
Here's an amazing fact, Slovak Republic's first and only placement (Top 6) was in 1994 and it was held in the Philippines, will the stars align in her favor this time? I believe Zuzana Kollarova can bring her country back in the semifinals!
Silvia Lakatošová (Slovak Republic Universe 1994)

If the rumor is true then lets rank the 20 selected candidates

Philippines, Slovak Republic, Thailand, Brazil, & Venezuela
Average (Spoiler)

Miss Philippines and Miss Puerto Rico Were Fan Favorites During the Swimsuit Competition
The Miss Universe candidates battled it out in the swimsuit competition yesterday in Mactan, Cebu. While we still don’t know who’ll win Best in Swimsuit, fans have already voted on their favorites via Facebook.
Of course, Miss Philippines Maxine Medina reportedly got the most cheers during the competition. She also got the most-liked photo on Inquirer.net’s album with over 6,000 likes and counting.
Miss Korea Jenny Kim also got a lot of cheers due to JPark Island Resort’s popularity among Korean tourists.
Also racking up Facebook votes are Miss Puerto Rico Brenda Jimenez, Miss Mexico Kristal Silva, Miss Thailand Chalita Suansane, and Miss China Li Zhen Ying.

There will be a Top 12 Semifinalist only
It's confirmed. From Norman Blog
Instead of a Top 15, only a Top 12 will be called to the first cut during the finals on January 30. This will make the competition for one of the spots more intense, I must say. So the popularity votes through Vodi (which will start on January 23) is very crucial. Talk about getting just eleven (11) ladies with the highest composite scores plus one (1) who will sneak through using the back door.
11 ladies with the highest scores and 1 candidate who will win the online vote

International singing superstar Flo Rida will be the guest performer for the finals.
Many Filipino fans are expecting Bruno Mars since he has a Filipino blood however Bruno has a World Tour and it is conflict with his schedule
I am not sure if there is a new hit single of Flo Rida. Here's what I found only.
Flo Rida also performed in 2009

Maxine Medina open to use a translator for Miss Universe Q&A
If this will happen she will be our first representative in Female Beauty Pageant who will use our Native language
Medina has been criticized for allegedly having poor communication and English skills after she committed several grammatical errors during a press conference last week.
"I'm here to win. Kung kailangan ko ng translator, kukuha ako," Medina told ABS-CBN News at the sidelines of a food-packing event Wednesday.
(I'm here to win. If I need to get a translator to win, I'll get one.)
Should plans to get a translator for Medina push through, the Filipina interior designer and professional model will be the first Philippine delegate to seek help from an interpreter during the 65-year-old pageant's question and answer round.
Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up Venus Taj earlier admitted to asking for a translator, but stressed that Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) first had to approve her application before it could be handed over to the Miss Universe Organization.
“They (BPCI) said, ‘No, you don’t need an interpreter, because the Philippines is actually known as [an] English-speaking [country], so hindi mo kailangan,” Raj said. “Pero kung ako lang talaga, gustung-gusto ko. I really want.”
Raj said she could have given a better answer if she was allowed to have an interpreter.

Confirmed 65th Miss Universe format
Top 12 is OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED
The pageant will go from 12 - 9 - 6 - 3
Competition Rules
The winner of Miss Universe must be confident. She must understand the values of our brand and the responsibilities of the title. She must have the ability to articulate her ambition as Miss Universe. A contestant should demonstrate authenticity, credibility and exhibit grace under pressure. The women who compete embody the modern, global aspiration for the potential within all women.
The MISS UNIVERSE® Competition begins with three days of preliminary interviews that includes a swimsuit and evening gown presentation show. These preliminary events are especially important as it will be the first time the judges and fans really get to know the contestants. The preliminary competition is the driving force in selecting the Top 12 contestants whom will be named during the televised event.
The live telecast and final competition kicks off with an announcement of the Top 12. Each of these contestants will walk the runway during the swimsuit segment displaying her dedication to a healthy lifestyle. Scores from each judge and home viewers via the Miss Universe Global Fan Vote will be averaged. The Top 9 is determined by the nine highest averaged scores during the first stage of competition.
The Top 9 contestants move on to the second stage of the competition during the evening gown segment. The judges and fans will see the contestants' personal style as they walk the stage in their evening gown of choice. However, the exact design of the gown does not count towards the total score and instead the judges focus on how confidently each woman presents herself. Each contestant receives an averaged score from the panel of judges including the home vote, furthering the contestants with the highest averages to move forward in the competition.
From the scores given in the evening gown competition, the Top 6 competitors are chosen, bringing them to the Final Question round. Each woman selects a judge at random who presents a question focused on various social, cultural and political topics affecting their country and/or the world. In the event that a translator is needed, one will be provided at the request of the contestant. The Final Question round will determine the contestant’s ability to articulate themselves under pressure while sharing a thoughtful, well-informed response. Again, all scores are averaged and the Top 3 contestants move on to the Final Look.
During the last stage of the competition, the judges and home viewers are asked to make a decision based on their overall performance through the Final Look. Rather than score, this segment is ranked, meaning the judges and home viewers base their vote on who they think should win the title.
The event concludes with the host announcing the winner of Miss Universe. In the event that the winner is unable to fulfill her duties, the first-runner up will take her place as Miss Universe.
Top 12 is OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED

I hate this new format. Top 12 is not enough when there are 86 candidates competing for the title. I wish the MUO would stick with a top15/16 or raise it to 20 just like in 2006. Also, the cut from top12 to top9 is unnecessary and ridiculous at best. It reminds me of the unnecessary cuts at Miss America lately. Fan vote is a big no no for me as we all know some countries are more obsessed with pageants than others and also, for some regions of the world (Europe, Africa and part of Asia), it will be night when the show will be held, which is unfair for them. Anyhow, we dont have much of a choice, but I hate the new format and the fanvote, it reminds me of American Idol on FOX and that was messy.

Gretchen Barretto teases Miss India about being the "wife" of Tonyboy Cojuangco
Gretchen Barretto has posted a number of videos on Instagram taken at the Miss Universe 2016 Governor’s Ball last Monday, January 16.
Gretchen attended the fund-raising event that was held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City with her long-time partner, business tycoon Tonyboy Cojuangco.
Among the videos she posted, there is one that stands and has been garnering the most number of views.
Those at the event who witnessed the playful scene overheard Gretchen teasing Tonyboy.
He was seating beside and conversing with Miss Universe-India Roshmitha Harimurthy when Gretchen said, “Hay, naku, My Dada’s flirting. Kakanta na naman akong mag-isa.”
Tonyboy then gestured to Gretchen, who was holding a camera, to take a video of him and Miss India.
When Gretchen got Miss India’s attention, she remarked: “I’m his wife. But you’re very beautiful.”
Gretchen then told Miss India, who was slightly taken aback, that she was only teasing Tonyboy.
"I'm teasing him. I said tonight I'm gonna sing on my own."
The comment generated a laugh from Miss India, who was heard saying to Tonyboy: “You have a beautiful wife.”
In another video, Gretchen also teased Tonyboy about enjoying the night.
“My Dada, apparently, is very happy. You know why? Miss India is seated beside him. [He] seems like a very happy man. Ha-ha-ha!”
Miss India gracefully handles flirting Tonyboy Cojuangco, jealous Gretchen Barretto
It’s hard to be beautiful and unintentionally be caught up in a love triangle.
But Miss India, a 2016 Miss Universe contestant, handled herself with much grace and composure at the Governors Ball when she was seated in a table next to Okada Manila partner Tonyboy Cojuangco, with his bae Gretchen Barretto seated across the table.
On her Instagram videos, La Greta was quite vocal that her “Dada is flirting” and that he seemed very happy to be seated next to Miss India.
“My Dada apparently is very happy eh. You know why? Miss India is seated beside him. Dada say hi! Seems like a very happy man. Ay naku, my Dada is flirting. Mapipilitan na naman ako mag discipline. Daddy this is a video ha. Don’t forget,” Gretchen said.
Thankfully, the Bilyonaryo’s bae tried to downplay her jealousy as she introduced herself to Miss India.
“I’m his wife. But you’re very beautiful. I’m teasing him. I said tonight I’m gonna sing on my own, be alone. Hay naku,” Gretchen told the pageant contestant.
To this, Miss India promptly told Tonyboy, “You have a pretty wife,” turned her back on the Bilyonaryo and continued listening to the program. Mr. Cojuangco visibly sighed and drank water after that.

The three Miss Universe Candidates who has a Filipino blood.
Is it a plus factor? Well IMO if the Semi finalist cut still a Top 15 or Top 20 they might place , but I don't think this is still a plus factor if only 12 spots is available for the semis!
Tania Dawson of New Zealand is half Filipino by blood
Raquel Pélissier of Haiti Grandmother is Filipina
Muñeka Taisipic of Guam definitely has Filipino roots running in her veins

Sierra Leone is debuting this year. Hawa Kamara is being trained and glammed up by an All-Filipino team. And was provided wardrobes, gowns and make up for free!
Indeed she is enjoying her stay here in the Philippines. And she might pull a surprise on the final night because of her Cinderella story
Hawa was invited as well both special Fashion show event in Vigan & Davao, only few candidates was invited to both Fashion show
An interview with Nicole Cordoves (Miss Grand International Philippines - 1st runner up)

During the 80's and 90's we rarely place as well since it's only a Top 10! And in 1997 Philippines is rank #11! Abigail Arenas is sooooo unlucky!
So yes trimming down the Top 15 into a Top 12 is a no no for me. I am not happy at all

Miss Canada Siera Bearchell inspires women with body positive story
I was recently asked, "What happened to you? Why have you gained weight? You are losing points" This was a reference to my body of course. While I am first to say I am not as lean as I was when I was 16, 20, or even last year, but I am more confident, capable, wise, humble and passionate than ever before. 🙋🏻As soon as I started to love who I was rather than always trying to fit what I thought society wanted me to be, I gained a whole new side of life. This is the side I am trying to bring to the miss universe competition. The side of life that is so rare to find: self-worth and self-love. We always focus on the things we wish we could change rather than loving everything we are

I hope there will be no more Sash factor. I don't see USA in the Top 12 but since she is wearing the sash of miss USA a placement for her might been reserved already! I hope they will consider the other candidates! Specially it's only a Top 12!
