Miss Hong Kong 1972 in Miss World, Meilin Gay slipped in the cracks by fooling the pageant officials that she was actually a woman. It turns out that Gay was born male and had been undergoing hormonal treatment at a young age before having a sex change. They had found out that she was registered male in her birth certificate and was only changed as female when she had managed to work at a massage salon in London. The suspicions started when the group of Miss World candidates whom Gay was with noticed that her mannerisms were not of a normal girl. Good thing she did not make the cut as it would have resulted to more stir in the pageant. After the said incident, Julia Morley was more rigorous in having full-scale investigation of authentic birth certificates. Meilin’s surname would have already given Julia a hint of what she really is as triflingly quoted on some tabloids.
