This photo was published on 8th July, eleven days before the final night. Miss Israel, Atara Barzely, arrives in New York aboard an El Al Airlines plane to compete for the Miss Universe 1957 title in Long Beach, California. 18 year-old Atara (her name is the Hebrew word for Crown) was born in Romania and went to Israel shortly after World War II. She graduated from high school only a few days before leaving for the United States.
