This photo was published on 18th July, seven days before the final night. Miss U.S.A. 1957 Charlotte Sheffield, plants a welcoming kiss on the cheek of Miss Poland Alicja Bobrowska, the first contestant to come to the Miss Universe pageant at Long Beach, California, from behind the iron curtain. Virtually all of the 80 beauties from America and abroad were on hand with the arrival of 50 girls on a chartered plane.
