Álvaro Garnero

Álvaro Garnero was born in Rio de Janeiro as the son of Mario Garnero and Ana Maria Monteiro de Carvalho. His family is often compared to great social American and European dynasties, like the Kennedy or the Grimaldi families, with a long tradition of prestige.

Álvaro Garnero graduated from the National University in San Diego with a degree in Administration, and later an MBA. He used to spend some time on vacation with his family in the south of France, and later moved to the United States for 15 years where he got married and had a son.

Since the age of 18 he worked at Brasilinvest, a holding company, where his father, Mario Garnero, is the chairman. Located in São Paulo, Brasilinvest has interests in the financial, telecommunications, infrastructure, real estate and agricultural sectors in Brazil and abroad. Besides his strategic functions at Brasilinvest, Álvaro Garnero is also a businessman with important expertise - and patrimony - in the entertainment area.

Since 2007 Mr. Garnero has been the host of 50 X 1, where he describes and presents experiences that he has all over the world that are unforgettable in his life. On the 4th season of the show he dared to do what Jules Verne just tried once attempted in fiction: traveling around the world in 80 days without an airplane or any aircraft. Current he is working in the 5th season of the show, and also works as executive producer of “Extreme Makeover” Brazil's Edition and is an executive producer of "Amazonia," a brand new environmental reality show created in partnership with Endemol group.

Ana Paula Junqueira

Ana Paula Junqueira is a businesswoman. She is an ambassador of goodwill and president of the League of the Brazilian Women Voters (LIBRA) in São Paulo. Ana always knew how to fight in order to achieve her goals. In 1994, 2002 and 2010, she went into politics. She was a candidate for office, and although she was not elected, she kept firm on her purpose of running for office. In her opinion, politics must be elaborated considering the society as a whole. BJ Coleman

As a publicist, journalist, and television personality BJ Coleman has established himself as a contemporary authoritative figure on entertainment and fashion.

BJ got an early start in entertainment when, at age 15, he filled the post of posse member on BET’s popular teen talk show Teen Summit with host Ananda Lewis, interviewing such personalities as Hilary Clinton, Method Man and LL Cool J. Lara Spotts

Lara Spotts currently serves as Vice President, East Coast Development for Bravo. In her role she is responsible for all East Coast development, including pilots, casting reels and concept development.

Lara has been an outstanding member of the programming and development team for the past three years. Her diverse background, inspiring creativity and innate understanding of character and story are invaluable in shaping some of the buzziest programming for the network, including “The Fashion Show,” “Work of Art: The Next Great Artist,” and “The Rachel Zoe Project.”

After photos of Brazilian businessman Alvaro Garnero welcoming Miss
China and her national director at his office in São Paulo a few days
ago were published in the internet, several national directors protested
and this morning his name no longer appeared in the list of judges at
the pageant’s official website.
Now only six judges have been confirmed.

Matheus Mazzafera, a fashion producer dear among Brazilian top models, replaced Alvaro Garnero as the 6th preliminary judge for Miss Universe 2011. The first preliminary scores were given yesterday, when a first group of contestants was interviewed and walked for the judges wearing the pageant’s official swimsuits.
