In Miss Universe 1970 Edition the top 15 was composed of 5 from the Americas, 5 from Asia/Pacific, and 5 from Europe.

Asia Pacific - Malaysia, Guam, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan

Europe - Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Greece

America - Puerto Rico, USA, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil

1979 Miss Universe Edition (Tragedy)

Ended in chaos when the stage collapsed moments after Maritza was declared the winner, injuring two contestants. A total of eight contestants crashed screaming through to the floor below, including one of the finalists Miss Brazil, who was hysterical and screaming. She did not get hurt, but her gown was ruined.

Miss Malta and Miss Turkey were taken to the hospital. Miss Turkey suffered a severe concussion and was being x-rayed for a possible fractured skull. Miss Malta suffered severe bruising of the leg and hip and was later released.

The new Miss Universe was able to grab Miss Colombia’s arm, saving her from falling and getting hurt.

"The semifinalists were chosen in a ceremony marred by the hysterical collapse backstage of Edna Park, Miss Nigeria, who cried uncontrollably for nearly 30 minutes after failing to make the cut. 'No, no,' she sobbed, pounding her fists on the rough wooden floor. Heartbroken, she resisted efforts of a newsman and pageant hostess to prop her into a sitting position. And after several agonizing minutes she was carried kicking and screaming to a dressing room by a policeman and contest official."
