Monina Medenilla Yllana represented the Philippines and was chosen as one of the semi-finalists in the Miss International Beauty Contest held in Long Beach, California on August 16, 1963. For a young lady from Bicol who had never thought of being a beauty queen, winning the Miss Philippines title, thus awarded her the right to represent her country in an international beauty contest was quite an accomplishment for her.
