25th July, 2012

Last night was absolutely spectacular! We had the Miss World welcome dinner and the opening ceremony and I was enthralled. It felt so larger than life! Firstly, my group which includes Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Canada, Miss Ecuador, Miss South Africa and Miss Hungary got these really pretty Mongolian costumes to wear for the night. We also wore our designer gowns and then for the event on stage, we slipped into these pretty blue traditional outfits! Every group had different costumes and the night started with a big bang! The stadium was so beautiful with high ceilings and beautiful decor! Still reeling from last night's excitement but there's no time to breathe. The competition is in full swing and today, we're all leaving for Ordos.

I can't wait to explore this beautiful place. So far, whatever I have seen and soaked in has been so memorable! You have to experience it to believe it! Putting up pictures from last night's event. More updates, pictures and interesting anecdotes coming from China very soon!

A White and pink ‘Gaya’ embroidery jersey dress with a criss-cross back and Indian mirror embroidery work. Mirror embroidery work is very famous in the state of Rajasthan in western India.

UPDATE FROM VANYA MISHRA

26th July, 2012

It's a brand new day in Shanghai and I'm in love with this place! As soon as we arrived, we checked into our hotel and headed straight for the dinner cruise on Huangpu River. Spent a relaxing day with my fellow contestants and friends. We did a lot of sightseeing, some shopping and also interacted with the locals. What I really loved was the welcome sign they put up in Ordos. It made us all feel so special and welcome in this country.

Today we have the World Fashion Designer Award night and rehearsals for the same are starting after lunch. I'm wearing a Malani Ramani outfit and can't wait to slip into it. It's so chic and cool!

For now, it's time to say 'zai jian' (which is Mandarin for goodbye). Check out all my pictures from yesterday. More updates later!

China is so amazing! Yesterday we were taken to the Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower which is so famous in all of Asia. We also had a photo session with the Chinese press since we arrived.

I have to say, I'm warming up to the people and place and have made some wonderful friends here. The girls are wonderful and everyone looks so lovely! Some of the girls have such beautiful eyes. I met Miss Nepal who also speaks Hindi so we were bonding over our common language. We spoke about Indian music and Bollywood which is famous in her country too. So I felt at home. While talking to Miss Kenya and Miss South Sudan, they told me they know about the Khans of Bollywood and they seemed to know more gossip than I did. LOL.

I also met and befriended Miss Indonesia and Miss Seychelles gifted all of us a fan. When we are all together, it's so much fun!
