Because it's called MISS Universe, which means unmarried and without children. However, it's so inopportune to use the term MISS nowadays, in many countries it is even banned from the official vocabulary because it is discriminatory...

MISS is a STRONG TERM my dear DEL, not only unmarried or without children, is never been with a man in the intimacy. And with all due respect, many of these girls aren't "MISS".

By the way I think that Carola will fight this with lawyers, we'll see. If Donald Trump had the guts to change the RULES that now you not necessarily have to be a NATURAL BORN WOMAN to participate, changing it again in allowing divorced women in the pageant is not a big deal. EVERYONE now has the same chances!!
