the same thing could be said about last year's ME, especially about Athena Mae Imperial's placement over other much much much prettier candidates. Nationalism played a big part I guess with China placing way too high and over Krista and Athena also placing way too high and over way better candidates.

Im so happy for Sri Lanka... she's my other favorite.. and their highest placement in this pageant...

Reminds me of Miss Earth 2008 in the sense that Philippines won the crown at home despite obviously not being the prettiest candidate as well as not being the prettiest contestant from the Philippines. In 2007, the stunning Miss Philippines was excluded from the semifinals, in 2008, Philippines won although she was facially not at par with other candidates and in 2009, a stunning Miss Philippines almost snatched the crown. Maybe we'll see the same kind of pattern with MI: stunning in 2010 but only a semifinalist, cute in 2012 with the crown, 2013?

This year edition of MI was a huge disappointment in every aspect. Fortunately, there was one bright moment during this neverending and extremely boring Japanese cooking show whch makes me smile even now Very Happy

It was Miss Ukraine with her weird pose Laughing

I still can't figure out what she was trying to transfer Laughing

Maybe she was praying for the crown? lol!

Mine too. I was lauging so hard througout the pageant. Then when we had to wait and wait I imagined her having to stand with that pose all the time Laughing

During the NC presentation all the girls were doing pretty similar pose with their hands (at least at the rehersals, I'm not sure if it looked the same during the final show, because I missed the beginning Razz

) and Miss Ukraine just forget to pull them down lol!

Another example from the beauty pageants "brightest moments" list - Jamaica and her "wild dances" during ME 2010 final show lol!

When I look at her "performance" I want to sing "She's a maniac, maniac on the floor (...)" Laughing

I did not watch the show because I was travelling yesterday! I do not like the winner at all but at least I like the runner ups!
This whole thing with the organising country winning the crown is getting annoying, I remember 2001 whe Evelina lost the crown in PR from the local girl! Evil or Very Mad

I get your point, BUT THIS HAS TO BE SAID

Miss International is very fair. This was Japan's first win and they have never even had a 1st runner up in this pageant.
So, I guess the time was due.... 52nd pageant and never have they had Japan in the top2, so it's hard now to critisise them of this.

I still say that what drag this show yesterday to last almost 5hr was because they couldn't decide whether to crown Japan or Finland as the winner Laughing

(I'm allowed to think that. I mean what else could they have been fighting about?) lol!

But it's hard for me to complain.
Since this is such a rare treat to us finns to be able to celebrate our girl like this!!!

Now we have to wait for 2 weeks before Viivi comes home,
But once she does: PAR-TYYYYYY
