En route to the Miss Universe 1958 contest in Long Beach, California, Miss Alaska Eleanor Moses stopped in San Francisco long enough to buy a $27 kimono in Chinatown. Asked about sack dresses, Miss Alaska said, “My people have worn them for generations. The kimono is prettier.”
