I do not think so, because Lynn (Dulce) is not the only dominican contestant who has participated previously in other international pageants, one of them is Marianne Cruz that back in 2008 was Miss Continente Americano 2007 while she represented the DR in MU 2008 ending up as 2nd r u. Up to now Lynn Lieggi is still MDRU 2012 and no rumors of being dethroned.

The only rules in DR are that a girl cannot participate in another Int. pageant is winning the crown in another pageant, but only in Grandslam Pageants ( Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth, Miss International & Miss TQI ) the rest are 2nd & 3rd class pageants like Miss Continente Americano, Miss Intercontinental and the rest of the 1,457,348,873 beauty pageants in the whole world.

but it aa new rule of the Miss Universe organisation and NB El Salvador says that they will not send the Nb El Salvador contestant at Miss Continente Americano because if she si place or win she will can not compete at MU. I understand this.

@Esther I hope that Alena will represent Russia with her it's a top 5 placement for sure. She is a goddes of beauty.

Yes, but she did not win, and it is not a Grandslam Pageant. I just wish that Carlina Duran could come back again. But as I said my dear Lynn is still the Dominican Queen and haven't heard or read any rumors about her not being in the Pageant. Smile

This new rule of MUO is not very clear.I think it is applicable to those girls who are elected to MU,so after that they cant compete in any pageant.It is understandable that if these girls participate in minor pageants and end up winning it ,it will pose a problem to them in MU..But the national orgs are sensible enuff to know that these kind of problems will arise.
If MUO wants their reps not to participate in other pageants,they shd make it a point to hold the pageant early,not make the elected ones wait.The elected ones are waiting for a long time like Vzela,Mexico,PR.
As for small countries like DR,Ecuador,Guatemala,El Salvador it must be costing them to keep the reigning winners in action.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — The Dominican Republic’s government said Wednesday that it cannot provide any kind of financial assistance to organizers of the Miss Universe contest scheduled to be held in the Caribbean country.

Jose Ramon Peralta, presidential administrative minister, said the government does not have the $6 million requested by the organizers.

“They’re welcome to hold the event with their resources and contributions from the private sector,” he said. “We are nearing a fiscal deal, a plan of austerity, and we must be very cautious about expenses.”

Officials from the administration of President Danilo Medina, who won elections in May, are meeting with representatives of the International Monetary Fund and expect to soon sign an economic monitoring agreement.

However, the 60-year old beauty pageant could still be in the country.

The Miss Universe Organization said in a statement Wednesday that it has already received what it called overwhelming support from the private sector, including the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in the tourist city of Punta Cana.

“This project is very much alive,” the organization said.

The organization said it understood the government’s position, but reiterated that such an event would help draw more tourists to the Dominican Republic, noting that is one of the president’s priorities.

The Miss Universe contest is scheduled for December. Officials have not announced the location but have said they are considering Punta Cana.

The Dominican Republic hosted the Miss Universe contest in 1977.

I think that the MU 2012 can held in Brasil again. If this will be true, Brasil will crown her 3rd MU - I think Rayane Morais. A lot of people said that the MU Org loved and praised Rayane in 2011, during the MU.
But, to garantee the results, the MB Org and MU Org need put 5 judges who realy vote on her.

Not sure if this is true, but Ines Ligron (former Miss Japan Universe director) has posted on her facebook page that Miss Universe will indeed by held on Decemember 11 in Dominican Republic. She goes further and says she heard it from a top NBC executive and the official announcement is coming soon.

In PR' Forum today there are some news that again the Pageant might be cancelled, too high prices and the DR will not pay millions of dollars for it, also because the new President of the DR, Danilo Medina just stepped in this last August.

This year's Miss Universe pageant will be held in Las Vegas and not in the Dominican Republic as previously considered.

Miss Universe organization president Paula Shugart tells The Associated Press that too many obstacles have arisen for holding the event in the Dominican Republic's popular tourist city of Punta Cana. Shugart says the main obstacle is the Caribbean country's financial crisis.

Wednesday's announcement comes two weeks after the Dominican government said it could not afford the $6 million in financial assistance that event organizers had requested.

Shugart says the event would have attracted many tourists to the Dominican Republic, noting that is a priority of newly elected President Danilo Medina.

i read that as well about it only lasting 8 days. That is barely enough time for rehearsals, photographs, etc. I expect to see the lemonade stand back as well as the chicken wing eating contest. This sounds like it is all being thrown together at the very last minute.
