Nassau, Bahamas – April 29, 2010

The Miss Bahamas Organization (MBO) announced today that veteran broadcaster Jerome Sawyer and Bahamian fashionista Leslia Miller will host the 2010 Miss Bahamas Beauty Pageant, which will be held on Sunday May 9th in the Imperial Ballroom, Atlantis Resort, on Paradise Island. Serving as color commentatator/roving reporter will be the outgoing Miss Bahamas World Joanna Brown. The event will be recorded to be broadcast on television at a later date.

“We have 17 of the most beautiful women in the country competing in the premier national beauty pageant,” said MBO President Michelle Malcolm. “I know Jerome and Leslia will do a great job hosting and with Joanna playing giving us the scoop from behind the scenes, it’s going to be a fabulous show!”

Jerome Sawyer is the Vice President of News and Current Affairs and lead anchor at the Broadcasting Corporation of the Bahamas. He is the former News Director and lead anchor for the Island FM Evening News, as well as former Producer, News Director and Anchor for NEWSBREAK, a thrice daily news programme on Cable 12. Mr. Sawyer is a two-time CNN Award winner. Throughout his career, Mr Sawyer has traveled around the world covering events around the Caribbean, North America, Europe and the Middle East. In addition to journalism, he has a keen interest in pageantry. He serves as the Miss Bahamas Organization’s Director of Media Relations and plays an integral part in helping to prepare Miss Bahamas delegates for their role as it relates to media.

Pageantry has always been a passion for Miss Miller from a young age. After graduating from St. Augustine’s College, she continued her education at Middle Tennessee State University as a member of the University’s Track and Field Team, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a minor in Pre-Physical Therapy. Her years of pageantry have afforded her the opportunity to travel to many countries as an ambassador for The Bahamas. She has competed on the local and international pageant arenas while setting a standard for other beauty queens to follow. Competing in the Miss Bahamas, Miss Caribe Hibiscus, Miss Black and Gold, Miss Bahamas Universe, Miss European Union, Miss Intercontinental, Miss Commonwealth International, and Miss Asia Pacific Pageants has allowed her to see and experience the culture of many countries around the world. She is also a fashion model who as been featured in international magazines such as Panache, Essence and Caribbean Beat wearing the designs of local Bahamian Designer, Lisa Humes.

Joanna Brown has had a remarkable year as Miss Bahamas World 2009, making an impression on pageant experts around the globe. This future broadcaster made her television debut as the host of this season’s Miss Bahamas Backstage Pass reality TV show. Her role in the finale will add to her body of work as she prepares to go off to study broadcast journalism after relinquishing her title. Both she and Miss Bahamas Universe 2009 Kiara Sherman will be on hand for the crowning of the new Miss Bahamas.

Viewers can see images of the contestants and vote for the 2010 People’s Choice here on our website. The delegate who receives the highest number of votes will automatically advance to the semifinals of the competition.
